MrObsessive Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) Dave, I built this kit a loooooong time ago...........one thing I remember is that the ride height could stand to be a couple scale inches lower. Sits up too high to my view for a Ferrari. If you want to go all out, you've GOT to get one of Norm Veber's Ferrari engines for this kit. Probably one of the BEST V12's you can get for the money and is worlds better than the kit engine! Hope this helps! Edited August 19, 2009 by MrObsessive
Zoom Zoom Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Overall it's a decent kit, but could stand improvement. Norm @ Replicas & Miniatures makes a number of parts that will improve this kit. Tires are also an issue, they're not really very nice. Wheels are okay, there are aftermarket P/E wire wheels that will look better.
Exotics_Builder Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Multiple issues that can be corrected. Body: Not bad. There should be a very mild crease at the top of the front fender panels rather than the smooth rounded shape. It can get by without adjusting, though.Interior: Incorrect seats and side panels, missing hand brake. The 250 GTO seats and side panels were included and are incorrect. Remediate wth Replica and Miniatures of Maryland Ferrari California Interior kit.Engine: Basic 250 engine, but incorrect airbox and placement of filler tubes. Airbox for cold air is correct for 250 SWB, but, from what research I did a few years ago, only a sport version of the California had that airbox along with the gas filler poking through an opening in the trunk. Even R&MofM 250 engine, as exquisite as it is, would need that addressedWheels: OK. For better options look to getting something like Model Factory Hiro's PE wheel set. Or stay with the wheels and give a slight wash of Tamiya Smoke Gray.Fit: Tight fit with the fender wells in the engine bay. Needs to well secured or will break off when fitting body.It is a nice kit. I've built one (am at office so don't have pictures accessible) and looking at building another with more detail. HTH Gerry
Exotics_Builder Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Here's a couple of pictures of the California I did a few years back.

jbwelda Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 arent those photos of an actual model build up on the package there? thats a really nice feature if you ask me. in that second photo you can see daylight through the rear wheel openings!
simonr Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 (edited) I built mine in 2002-2003 and this one with some effort has potential to be build as a an awesome example the rivals resin ones. In mine I used the engine kit from R&M and the interior kit among other goodies. Here's a couple of pictures of it: I hope they can help you to have a better idea of what you can do with this kit. Here's the complete just in case: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...st=0#entry25857 Simón P. Rivera Torres Edited August 22, 2009 by simonr
