808 Nitro Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I'm working on my build for the Lions Track theme build up. I was wondering if anyone has any photo reference for the black and gold Hemi Under Glass Cuda? I have Googled it and found some but anyone got any shots from special apperances or when it was in the NHRA museum? Need engine, interior, drivetrain areas. Mostly stuff on the inside. I have a lot of shots of the outside. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chun

(first version of the car, there were three and only kits were produced of the first and third) and it only comes with limited decals. All of the sponsor decals were missing from the sheet. This is the best I can do for ya....just a glimps of the velocity stacks (why my kit came with a blown motor I'll never know)
dwc43 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 .just a glimps of the velocity stacks (why my kit came with a blown motor I'll never know) Because he ran a blown engine at one time.

Even has the decal for the under side metal bellypan? or covering. The original second HUG 69 version kit came with a injected setup motor. This kit has not been reissued. So they issued both kits with the opposite engines. dwc43, thanks also for the pics. The first two shots are of the 2nd '69 version Hemi Under Glass car. The 69' cuda was blown and this one is the restored one. I have not seen a pic of the first car being blown yet, only injected. I have a magazine showing it with dual carbs early on. Thanks again!
dwc43 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Yes early version was a dual carb Cross Ram Hemi. The first Little Red Wagon trucks was also a dual carb Cross Ram Hemi. I have some pics of that engine and it's engine cradle sitting on the ground in his shop.
charlzrocks Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 cool, thanks for the info on the slixx decals. I gotta get a sheet.......mine looks naked!
808 Nitro Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 cool, thanks for the info on the slixx decals. I gotta get a sheet.......mine looks naked! Looks good on the build up, the SLixx sheet does have a lot of decals to fill your model up with. I forgot to mention that if you want to build the '69 cuda version that is all gold then find yourself some Fred Cady decals. He no longer makes them but you can check some hobby stores for back stock or EBAY for them. Laters, Chun

I got a Hurst Hairy Olds that I'm gonna build to match it. I am gonna check on the Slixx decals tomorrow. Nearest Hobby shop is 50 miles away and wayyyy limited in stock. I will stick with the internet. Also gotta get some microset stuff. Saw the site and am probably gonna get the whole set of products. I'm kind of a new product whore lately! I could sure use a photo of this engine...I want to build the Little Red Wagon as it ran @ Lions Drag Strip in 1965 Only photo I've found is the blown motor thanx

dwc43 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 (edited) O.k. tired of editing. IT would be so much easier if we did not have to use a hosting site to do this. This is the only site I am on that requires it. Somehow I got two pics of the same thing posted and could not get rid of them. There is one pic that does NOT belong. The second pic showing the driver seat is a center seat shot. That truck was built after he turned one over and rolled it several times. It was for added safety. From what I read, there was only 3 or 4 trucks plus the one built just for Garlits to display in his museum, but I sure do have a bunch of pics with 3 different engines and several different paint schemes. All red, but some have a lot of '70's yellow scroll work on it. I call it the hippy era truck. And there's several wheel combos compared to the body work and paint schemes too. Hope that helps out. dwc43 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 thanx now all I need to find out is what type of induction Bill Maverick ran on the LRW at Lions anyone out there know? I've got some pics of it too, but I can't tell ya what brand it is. IT's just 8 injectors and stacks.
curt raitz Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I've got some pics of it too, but I can't tell ya what brand it is. IT's just 8 injectors and stacks. that is what the kit has, pretty rough though although I do have some nice tall turned aluminum velocity stacks in my parts box... thanx
dwc43 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 that is what the kit has, pretty rough though although I do have some nice tall turned aluminum velocity stacks in my parts box... thanx Yeah, I bought some of those stacks too. I am trying to find a better looking more realistic Hemi to put in mine. And I think I'll build the supercharged one with the weld wheels and the cut out rear fenders. Not sure how I will make that rolled lip they put on them though. I have a pic of one that's blown with a rearward facing injector hat and it's got a yellow paint job on the engine and it's old too. There's plenty of places where the paint is missing from working on the engine and even the blower has yellow paint on it.
808 Nitro Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Gee, with all this Lil' Red Wagon goodness maybe I outta switch to the Hemi Under Glass kit build? Gotta question for you drag guys, the HUG's kit engine has the magneto in the back of the blower and not mounted in the front is that correct or is it a optional thing? I see a lot of setups with it in the front and some located in the back, mostly on dragsters. Thanks for all the input, Red Wagon and all Chun

All small blocks and old style 392 type Hemi's goes in the rear. Has nothing to do with the blower, that's where the hole in the block is and inside that whole you can see the gears on the cam and drive that drives the dist. or magnetos. Never seen one for a Mopar, but they do make set ups for Ford and chevy to run them off the front of the engine, be it by camshaft or crank drive with a belt.

Thanks for all the input, Red Wagon and all Chun Sorry Chun, didn't mean to jump on your thread...but read "have pictures of Little Red Wagon also" and got carried away me thinks i've got enough to get this thing built now have been lookin' for pix of HUG for ya good luck on the build c'ya
dwc43 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 No problem on the pics. I have 3 MPC Super Bee's that come with a six pack and a separate block for the Hemi. And they have a separate trans too. I may use one of them if I need to. I just need to find a super charger and injector hat and belt set up. I already picked up some resin Weld wheels to use on it. And you don't have to tell me about the real 1 to 1's. I've owned enough of them over the years. We campaign a Mopar NASCAR G.N. Sportsman car. Afraid it's a 365 small block though.
charlzrocks Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've got some pics of it too, but I can't tell ya what brand it is. IT's just 8 injectors and stacks. Could you post or pm me those pics of the engine with the stacks? I am building the Lindberg LRW and need some color references for the engine. I am gonna see if I can make my own stacks as the kit ones look pretty "WIMPY"
Flatout Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hope this helps...from the Garlits Museum. Sorry Chun...I think I just finished the hijacking
Jon Cole Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I have a "1:1 MOPAR- WHEELSTANDERS" photo reference album, maybe this will be of some use to y'all? http://public.fotki.com/JCole/11_mopar-1/11_mopar-_lil_red/

Must be in the old PC. I'll keep looking for it. The truck in the Don Garlits museum was never run. IT was made just for Garlits. Here's a couple links for you. The first one is a video showing very close detail of the injection set up and it's actually better than my pic. I also have some aluminum stacks that I bought for my truck. I'll get the name if it's still on the bag if you want to order some up. Oh, hit pause and let both of the videos download before playing them for a better exp. Edited August 30, 2009 by dwc43
bobcrozier Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excellent videos dwc - who is that complete nutter riding in the bed of the dodge van? As for the Modelking HUG, nice kit, but it needs quite a bit of remedial work to get it anywhere near accurate! Mind you, that's half the fun though! The Slixx decals sure help! HUG Build Bob
dwc43 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excellent videos dwc - who is that complete nutter riding in the bed of the dodge van? Bob Thanks. And that was Bob Riggles, driver of the Hemi Under Glass.
