Nick Winter Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I've deceided to retract from this build and just build Jimmy's and Rocky's GM's on my own.
FujimiLover Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 I've deceided to retract from this build and just build Jimmy's and Rocky's GM's on my own. Is there any reason not to add Jimmy here? He's more than welcomed!
Nick Winter Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Is there any reason not to add Jimmy here? He's more than welcomed! Well I'll be building both of these vehicles very slow so You can link to my builds or?
FujimiLover Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Whatever will work for you. I don't want anybody to feel left out................. like I said, it was your project that gave me the idea for this build-off.
diymirage Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I'm not sure to what movie or show your refereeing too? taxi is a french movie (i think) made in 98 it has 2 sequel in french with the origenal cast (including the 406) it was written by luc besson, the same guy who wrote the movie taken (you can tell when you look at the car chase scene in taken when the guy steals the jeep and the albanians chase him) the story goes as follows daniel is a pizza delivery boy whos greatest aspiration is to become a racecar driver but because his did died in a racecar crash his mom would never let him so he settles for the next best thing, a job as a taxi driver his ride is a fully pimped out peugeot 406 with a V6 engine in it on one of his trips he picks up emilien emilien works at IBM (or so he says so not all his friends ask him to "fix" thier speedinf tickects) daniel and emilien have a spirited conversation where daniel calls the cops idiots (among other things) and breaks the speedlimit by more then 60 MPH when daniel drops emilien of at his destination this turns out the be the local cop shop and emilien turns out to be a cop he arrests daniel and threathens to take his license away but daniel cuts a deal there is a group of germans who drive red mercedes' and rob banks, if daniel can help emilien catch then he can keep his freedom and his license my favorite scene in the movie: daniel is taking his fare to the hospital and comes upon a rally race him and his fare have a discussion on weather the car in front of them (and soon enough behind them) i a actual racecar daniel claims it is not, he just dressed up his car to impress the girls and he passes him by in a chicane also, i think there was a us remake of this movie back in 04 ish but i never saw that one
ismaelg Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Can't join but if I could, I would love to do a correct Magnum's Ferrari. (308 GTS) The Revell kit is way off and the Monogram is a GTB. Another choice would be either of the Miami Vice Ferraris. Yes, I know, they were kit cars but cool nonetheless. Would Steve Austin (6 million dollar man, cheap by today's standards ) be considered a detective? He drove a '75 silver Corvette Convertible in some episodes.... Nice idea, good luck to all! Thanks,
FujimiLover Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 About those kit cars, some were kit cars in chasing scenes, but other scenes were real cars. All in all they were supposed to be the same real exotic car so it's good in my book. I'm not familiar with Steve Austin, what program was he in?
Ron Hamilton Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Interesting thread. I have to look through my stash and select an appropriate kit to build.
diymirage Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 i guess the scene i described was from the second movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5ZcI6SN2qU you want to start at 1.00 minute my favorite section is at 2.30 minute: its just a clown in a chick magnet
FujimiLover Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Nice job Mike! Could you do a tutorial under "tips'n'tricks" of how you got it to look dented? Thank's for sharing and keep up the good work.
roadhawg Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) Very interesting idea! I wish I had time to join in, but I've already got too many projects going right now. If anyone is still undecided, here's a few more ideas........anyone under 40 probably won't remember these shows, but one that had a LOT of cool cars was Joe Mannix. He even had a George Barris built Oldsmobile that I believe MPC kitted in 1/25 scale. Later on he had a 68-69 Dart GTS, then a Challenger. How about that beat up ol' Impala that Tony Baretta drove? Or the red 57 T-bird that Dan Tanna drove in Vegas. Another show I remember was Stingray.....but I don't think he was a detective, he just helped people solve problems. Another detective show was Riptide.....I been wanting to build that pink helicopter they had (Can't seem to find the S-58T nose conversion), but they also had a Vette....a 60? 61? Can't remember. Anybody want to build the 4-door Fairlane from Dragnet? They were detectives! Anyway...good luck guys. I'll keep an eye on this one! Edited August 27, 2009 by roadhawg
FujimiLover Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Sorry, I only remember the 80's and maybe late 70's re-run's. What was that show with Ed O'niel before he was on Married With Children? Or was it after, I can't recall. I think it was also a detective show.
Guest Gassersgarage Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Guess it doesn't matter, but Rockford was a PI right? "Detectives" are police .... Robert
FujimiLover Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 I guess it all depends on how you look at it. A lot of those characters claim that their not cops, their private investigators. I suppose it depends on how they conduct their business really. Magnum was more PI than police, and I think PI's are slightly different than detectives. I would think detectives would be more like a police officer in that they have a group they work with. Think of modern day detectives like Law and Order, my favorite detective is played by Vincent Denafrio, but can't recall the character's name off hand. Gorden and Eve's is it? Anyway, PI's, detectives, anybody who is under cover is welcome. Thank's for your interest's guy's. Let's keep this rolling and keep'em coming! I'd like to see this pan out better than the C.R. build-off did.

FujimiLover Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 While I like Ed O'niel, I think he was a bit dull in Dragnet. Okay, to make this build-off grow, ANY crime-busting, investigating private-investigating investigator's can join in on the fun. Everybody from Batman to Colombo to Inspector Gadget.
Aaronw Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I'm not familiar with Steve Austin, what program was he in? The six million dollar man, now I feel old. He was a bionic government agent that fought russians, big foot and ufo's. I loved the show when I was a kid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HofoK_QQxGc Another detective show was Riptide.....I been wanting to build that pink helicopter they had (Can't seem to find the S-58T nose conversion), but they also had a Vette....a 60? 61? Can't remember. Cobra Company makes a resin conversion for the S-58T in 1/48 and 1/72. The 1/48 Revell kits are hard to find and expensive, the 1/72 Italeri kits are still available. Hobby boss also makes a 1/72 kit, but it would be more work. The Italeri kit has a seperate nose allowing them to reuse much of the kit for the British Wessex, this also makes the resin S-58T nose a fairly simple modification. http://www.cobracompany.com/
Roadkill2525 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I started a detectives car last October. 1970 Monte Carlo I have this for it.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Where did you find that? That would be perfect for my Starsky and Hutch Torino.
Rick Schmidt Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Can I come play?? This guy is a bit late. But I got this one waiting to come out and play I also got this one in progress now the Taurus isn't a 100% correct build. but I am replacing some of the kit stuff to get it closer than out of the box. but it being just a quick build, I'm not going through whats needed to DeSHO the body. Sure most of it will vanish when the car goes flat black
FujimiLover Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 ^^^^^^^Nice choices^^^^^^^ Come on in!
