jjsipes Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Here are a couple of the Dave Strickler Old Reliable Chevys that I build a couple of years ago. The 61 is a resin body and decals are from Model Car World. The 62 is the AMT model built with Model Car World decals.
my name is nobody Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 they both look pretty killer. That '61 is just wicked in red. Great Job on both.
caine440 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Those look great. You did a super job on both. the resin body turned out really well.

It looks reder in the pictures than it really is. I used Testors Lacquer Hondorus Maroon spray can. Beatiful color. Edited August 28, 2009 by jjsipes
berr13 Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Really nice! I've got a '62 on the back burner, with Cady decals--hope it turns out as sharp as yours...
bobcrozier Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Love the 62 Bel Air, looks like you nailed that interior colour too! Those decals look just right! Now you need the 60 and 63 cars too Bob

I have a '63 that was built years ago but has yellowed and needs to be rebuilt. Edited September 1, 2009 by jjsipes
bobcrozier Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 My Bad! You're right of course the '61 was the first! Really must keep on top of my medication! Bob
jjsipes Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 My Bad! You're right of course the '61 was the first! Really must keep on top of my medication! Bob Wasn't quite sure but I thought the '61 was the first but, you never know. I do have the stuff to build some other Dave Strickler cars as well. I have for the '64 and '65 Dodges, the '68 and '69 Camaros.
bobcrozier Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I was looking trying to find any references to Dave Strickler pre-"Old Reliables" i.e. if he raced before 61. But I couldn't find anything. I've done II & IV and definitely need to do I & III. III wasn't as memorable as the others and subsequently there aren,t that many pics of it around. Bob

Bob Like I refered to earlier, I got my 61 body and decals from Model Car World. I also got the 62 Impala body and decals from him. All of his decals come with reference pictures. Good clean bodies and decals. Great gentleman to deal with as well. Ihave purchased many bodies, decals and paints from him over the past 5 or so years. If you haven't gotten on then you need to get the Super Stock: Drag Racing the Family Sedan by Larry Davis. Great book and great reference pics all be it that many of them are black and white but it does have a few color pics. I got mine when they first came out and have taken it to many shows and gotten autographs from the legends that are covered in it. Car Tech Books has a downloadable verison but I didn't see the hardcover verison on there website.
bobcrozier Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Yeah I picked that up last year - weren't that easy to find over here in the UK, but its my SuperStock bible now!! I'll have a look at Model Car World and see if they ship outside the US Cheers Bob
