A while back someone asked for some advice on building a paint booth. One of our members listed everything he used down to the last nail.

He also listed a motor from Grainger and the part number. The fan for my boooth just died and find myself needing that info again.

Does anyone have that thread bookmarked or have that info handy?

Many thanks in advance.

Rob, it ain't a Grainger, but I used a 70 cfm Bathroom fan for mine. I just turn it on about 15 mins. before hand an mine works just fine. Hope you don't hafta rebuild it just to use one!!!Hope this helps! :D;)

Yup! Bathroom fans are perfect for this as they are brushless. Therefore no spark can set off the fumes. What I use is a window mounted set of double fans available from Walmart. It is reversable with a switch on both sides and can then be reversed to blow back in when the weather turns cool in the evening.

Only thing to look for in a fan, if you are looking for a replacement motor, is the length of the mounting screws and the length of the fan shaft. Other than that... the shape and size of the motor is pretty standard.

I went to home depot several years ago and bought an inductor, these are used to push air into the farthest rooms in houses. They come in diffetrent sizes, if I recall 6 and 10 inch, I bought the 10 inch wide. I rigged up the electric wires, reduced the couplings to a 5 inch duct, ran it out of the house and it has worked very well without any problems whatsoever!! :D

Grainger has a ton of Shaded pole blowers (aka squirrel cage), just look for one of similar size and capacity to the dead blower on your booth. I was very impressed with their service.

I bought a Dayton 1TDR7 a 485 cfm blower, for $144.

I was originally using a range hood motor but it just wasn't pulling enough air. A cloud of paint would build up in the booth and then roll back at me. I disassembled the booth to move and now when reassembled - it won't start again. So I figured I'd change to a squirrel cage variety that everyone raves about. I'd rather spend a little more $ now and have something that will last.

Thanks for the advice.
