I love the F1, and just a quick glance at this and I love this one too.

It's a real shame we haven't gotten anything in styrene of this awesome car.

I suspect Fujimi is already rolling on a Ferrari 458 Italia. They, to me, would be the obvious choice to create an all new tool of a McLaren F1 and then this new McLaren MP4-12C.

After seeing the new Ferrari 458 Italia, this is a letdown. Rather boring/derivative, in comparison, and not nearly the shot out of the ballpark that the F1 was. This isn't really a replacement for that car, but still...I'm underwhelmed. The overall shape is okay, but it's like I'm not really seeing anything new, and looking at a second-tier supercar design. Ferrari knocked the 458 right out of the ballpark...it's going to be a hard car to beat. I could envision it being the McLaren F1 replacement...it's that good. Interesting that the designer, Frank Stephenson, who did some final tweaking of the McLaren, also worked for Ferrari/Pininfarina. I wonder what he said when he saw the new McLaren.

Bob, I wondered what your opinion would be. I like it, but after your comments I know why I like it. It reminds me of the 458. I suppose it is flattery isn't it?

Shock and Awe it isn't, but I think it looks good. After reading the article Dale linked, I would agree with your assessment. If they wanted to go above and beyond then it shouldn't look like a copy of the 458. Seriously, I thought you'd like it Bob. LOL Shows how much I know!

Chris, for a company that claims it wanted to rewrite the rules of sportscar design, they sure didn't rewrite the Ferrari formula, and Ferrari just trumped them thoroughly. It's a decent looking car, but the overall shape is nothing new and detailing falls short of my expectations. It looks like a well-thought student design project for a mid-engine Ferrari. I was expecting more, I guess.

Mercedes/AMG have just thoroughly trumped the performance of the McLaren SLR with the new gullwing SLS. Styling on that car is also polarizing...I like it, but the roof looks too simplistic...a roadster/spyder will look better, but that's the case with the original 300SL as well, I far prefer the roadster. And this is from someone who generally likes coupe styling better than convertible styling on the same car.

wow that look likes you took a 360 modena and a gallardo spyder, and threw them in the blender.

close...

I think it was a 360 and a Elise though

To me it looks like a massaged Gallardo. IMO McLaren can do much better. How about a car with a bit of the F-1 with styling cues from the M6GT and the M8B. If they made the F-1 in a model it would already be in the works!

I seen it, to jelly bean and boring. It has sort of Evora and Gallardo looks to it.

The 458 Italia, now that's beauty, but even that, it just doesn't catch the Ferrari essence as say a 365 GTB or a GTO would give. :)
