Gregg Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Here is my build for our club challenge, the '69 Nova from Revell with Bob Dudek rims.
RodBurNeR Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 nice color and Bob's wheels look perfect on it! is that a Drag City hood?
Modlbldr Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) Gregg- That is going to be awesome. I love the work so far. Those rims are great. Does Bob have a site to order from? Later- Edited September 13, 2009 by Modlbldr
Gregg Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 I was thinking of going two-tone, black on top, the purple on the bottom.
vizio93 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I was thinking of going two-tone, black on top, the purple on the bottom. Hey man i think that that would be a sweet combination. would you also paint the hood black, or maybe just the scoop ?
Tom Kren Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Yes very nice so far and the wheels set it off! Hey what color is that anyways?
BKIN10SECS Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Did you use that new airbrush on dat baby....and are those recent BD rims....oh yeah, go with the two tone.
Gregg Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 It would be the whole top half, hood, scoop, and all Yes, that's the new GREX airbrush, was fantastic! No fogging, nothing! It's the Purple from House of Kolors, I will go outside and look at bottle.
Gregg Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 I went two-tone, black on top. The hood is from Mike's Speed Shop: From the December 2008 issue: "Mike’s Scale Speed Shop has a new resin hood for the Revell ‘69 Nova. Based on a Corvette 427-style hood scoop, this hood fits perfectly on the Revell kit. It retails for $5.00 plus shipping and handling. Check out Mike’s web site at MikesScaleSpeedShop.com for this and other great resin products, decals, and accessories for your builds." Bob Dudek posts here and can be seen whenever there is a full moon. (just kidding, Bob, you know I love yah!)
BKIN10SECS Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 (edited) Man...just took a closer look....love the wrinkle slicks....looks like a 10.5 mini tub ready to take care of business type of ride....low rod....touring...hmmmmmm Edited September 14, 2009 by BKIN10SECS
Gregg Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 Thanks, Jay! Will I see you at the Atlanta show in November?
BKIN10SECS Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Dirk has been trying for a couple of years now to get me to that show....its just a time issue...man we'll see.
vizio93 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 wow man nice paint job !!! wat engine is gonna be pullin' that nova off the line?
Steven Zimmerman Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Actually,Gregg....I think what you meant was that Bob Dudek MIGHT post here if there's a full moon,if he FEELS like it(grin).....Anybody else think he's starting to resemble Grumpy Jenkins,as they both get older? (especially the GRUMPY part (grin)....I love ya TOO,Dude........................the'Z'man
Gregg Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 Bad news. The Nova is taking a bath. That's not a good thing It's in 91% rubbing alcohol, not the kind I like... So, while it was in there, decided to strip off all markers, etc. Will paint again today or morrow.
Buildsince93 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 that sucks what happened it was lookin real good!
Gregg Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Nah, it's easy to do again this time right it didn't smell right either I don't think I let the silver base dry enough before the purple went on. Live and learn
Guest JamesDE Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Ahhh man, that is a shame about the paint. It was lookin real good too. But you'll get it worked out.
Gregg Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Started painting again today. Should be pau tomorrow for the club meeting Need to find a killer motor for it. Any suggestions?
vizio93 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 how about a Ls2 out of the 05' vette. maybe you could supercharge it too ?
Dave Mikrut Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I know what you are sayin bout the smell Gregg. When they're gassin out, it's almost like you can still smell both paints. One time I had applied it so soon, I could rub the top coat off down to the silvercoat, which was also still gassin out and I could smell it crazing the plastic! But now I'm hearing you are using alcohol for a paint stripper? Will it do silver and gold? I always have trouble stripping those.
