FujimiLover Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Anybody remember the classic video game Spy Hunter? What kind of car was that? Look's like some exotic of some sort. Any ideas? Not talking about the new ones, but the real 80's classic.
Trans Am Erik Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Cool Idea! The car from the PS2 version of the game looks like it could be made with a Viper coupe, stretched through the rear to make a mid engine platform, or a heavily modified Saleen S-7. The old top view '80's arcade version could be made out of anything from a Jag to a Ferrari. Here's the PS2 version Keep me posted, I bought my PS2 because it had the most car games! I love the ones that let you customize the cars.
FujimiLover Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 I wonder if it's that Maseratti thing.
modeltrucker Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Spy hunter that game took alot of my tip money from my pizza delivery job I had. good times .
Lownslow Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 there was a diecast kit based on the saleen s7 but it was too small
Jantrix Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I have heard of a motion picture in the works based on this. Duane (the Rock) Johnson was said to be involved.
Lownslow Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I have heard of a motion picture in the works based on this. Duane (the Rock) Johnson was said to be involved. last i heard its still in production
Aaronw Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 It was based on a Chevy Camaro Z-28 according to Midway. I always thought it was supposed to be a Lotus Esprit, but that may be due to it being the car of choice for the Bond movies around that time.
dwc43 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I always thought it was supposed to be a Lotus Esprit, but that may be due to it being the car of choice for the Bond movies around that time. You beat me to it. The old car did look a lot like a Lotus Esprit.
Lownslow Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 heres variations of the ones i know about
FujimiLover Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Thank you Lownslow! The one on the very bottom is the only one I remember. And the game I remembered playing as a child only showed the top view of the car. I still can not tell what kind of car it was supposed to be, perhaps a custom car?
LVZ2881 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 since it came out in the 80's, it could be a custom based on a pantera...
Aaronw Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) http://classicgames.about.com/od/arcadegam...unterProfil.htm Specifically Trivia: The Spy Hunter car G-6155 Interceptor is based on the 1983 Chevy Camaro Z28. Personally I don't see it but that is what the game designers said in the extras from the Midway Arcade Classics disc. Edited September 17, 2009 by Aaronw
FujimiLover Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 I see no part of that car that resembles a Camero at all!
Tonioseven Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) Looks like a Mercedes Benz C-111 Edited September 17, 2009 by Tonioseven
Abell82 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 The shape of the bottom of the front windshield says Lamborghini, to me. If the car was supposed to be based on a Camaro, someone should have told the artist. Fiero, maybe. Camaro? Nope!
LDO Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Looks more like an Isdera Imperator 108i to me
FujimiLover Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 Nice find LDO, and your probably more correct than the others. But still, where the hell did they come with a Camero? Perhaps their talking about the newer Spy Hunter cars and not the old classic one? I was also thinking of that Mercedes as well, but couldn't think of the name of that car. I think LDO has the right answer but question is, what year did THAT car come out?
Abell82 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 I stand corrected. The Isdera Imperator does look close. I had never heard of, or seen that car before. A quick google search says it came out in 1984. And was in production, until 1993.
