crazyjim Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Every so often I see a model painted with fingernail polish. How do you thin the stuff to be able to shoot through an airbrush? I think the nail polish is lacquer but I'm not sure.
robertw Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I've only done a couple of projects with fingernail polish so I'm no expert but I just used your hardware variety lacquer thinner and then used Tamiya Clear over that. Had no problems. I don't remember the thinning ratio but do remember that it needed quite a few coats to get paint coverage that I was happy with. rob
Lownslow Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 i think im at 70/30 to get my results for 20psi
Guest Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I mix 50/50 with laquer thinner, also at 20-25 psi. Unless you use a basecoat similarr to the polish color, it will take a number of coats to get at your desired color, nail polish is fairly translucent.
Jeff Johnston Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 What lee said. I thin with regular Wal Mart thinner at probably 60% thinner. Like Lee said, you will find it takes more coats to cover than a lacquer "paint". It dries extremely fast, but always looks dull prior to clear. But once you clear, the color pops.
