I just called Bud Lefevre on his cell to see if he could pass on message that I won't be at NNL.

He was very hard to talk and couldn't hear me very well. He told me to call his home. I called and his wife explained what was going on.

Bud has cancer and it doesn't look good at all. I am in tears right now, I have known him for about 5 years and he is a very nice guy.

I asked his wife if I should let everyone know and she said "that's fine".

She is keeping busy and she said Bud is pretty doped up so that he is not really in much pain.

If you have anything to say call his home. His wife is going up to hospital in morning and said she would tell him he has friends that love him.

I don't know Bud, but obviously he is one of us and it is sad to hear of his condition. My heart goes out to his wife and family as they must be living a terrible life right now. I am so sorry to hear this. I lost a sister-in-law yesterday after a fairly short illness. Actually she was ill for a long time, but it was only the last 10 days or so that she was in the hospital getting worse every day...so I know what Bud's family is going through....God bless them.

Thank you Peter, let's not give up on him yet though! I know it doesn't sound good, but he is still pulling.

Bud is one of the best model builder's I know and you can see his work "featured" in magazines as well as covered from shows. His models have been in many publications over the years. Bud is also a drag racer. He has a passion for drag racing and he puts every bit of detail into his builds.

Here he is

Bud has amazing talents, but he also is a very friendly person and good friend.

Sad news. I do not know Bud personally. I used to save pics of models listed by the builders name. This is the only one I have of his. Get well Bud!

yeah Bud has built some serious drag cars. I was just remembering when I was looking to "try" a 1/16 scale model out. He sent me a vintage '55 chevy hardtop that he was building. It's not finished, but I have to get that one done someday. Just shows what kind of guy he is. Very giving and caring, a great friend.

I've seen his work in the "other" magazine. He has done some beautiful work with kits! I don't know his number, so you'll have to give him best for me, and let him know that a lot of people are keeping their hopes high for him.

Being in the medical field, it never ceases to amaze me how diseases such as cancer do not discriminate. I've seen people in the 20's with this disease and it can be very hard to take sometimes as a health care provider. One can only hope and pray a cure for this disease is found someday.

Bud's work is unbelievable and he is definitely a pinnacle in today's hobby. His models are a joy to behold and his attitude and thoughtfulness toward others in the hobby is just as awesome as his builds. Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family in this very trying time. ;)

Bud is a friend of mine also. I've been in the DMCC for 15 years now and I've always admired Bud's work. Brian (GENERAL LEE), Joe, and myself went to see him when he was in the hospital earlier in the year. He perked up when he opened up the Black Widdow '57 Chevy and began plotting and planning. Just hanging out with friends and talking cars was a great medication. Get well soon Bud, you're in our prayers.

Info from reliable sources this past weekend have him in a care facility and on a feeding tube with the cancer spreading to his hip and surrounding bone area. :P

I don't know Bud, but saw some of his builds in car mags, and admired his work. For a man who drag races in real life during the day, and builds model cars at night, that is passion, and I not only respect and admire it, but sure wish I had that level of dedication.

When I was 17, I was sort of a cocky, arrogant and obnoxious spoiled kid who needed an eye operation. My dad worked a deal with the hospital to put me in a room with a man dying of lung cancer to "cheer him up" , as my level of obnoxiousness was manifested with enthusiasm. While in the hospital, I tried my best, but his demeanor secretly brought out high levels of sympathy, and I watched him die. That I will never forget, and when I had family members with cancer or scares of it, I was at the hospital with my heart on my sleeve towards them. Like another entry said, cancer is indiscriminate, it attacks anyone it chooses.

Pray that current medical technology has answers for Bud and he can recover. Technology gets better everyday, and if it were caught early, it can be put into remission. Even if you are not overlly religious, Bud sure could use your prayers. I know I am praying for him.

If there is anyone close to Bud in distance, I have a suggestion. When this list of well wishes gets large, that person print screens all of the replies and presents itself to him. I was active in a model railroad forum in 2003, and had a gastric bypass operation which developed complications. My friend first announced in on the forum, and it got quite a few replies. He print screened the entire thread and put it in an envelope and brought it to the hospital.

What a picker upper!!!

Bud is an all out nice guy! I met him in Toledo, at the NNL in '92. He worked in a local hobby shop at the time. He took me on a little tour around town, showed me some cool speed shops and a friend of his who had a rod shop. I had planned to visit both Lindberg and Jo-Han. Bud told me how to get to both places. At the time he had a Chevy Fleetside truck, partly in primer. Not sure if he got it painted. I've seen that truck in someone's avatar! The pic looks almost like one I took....!

I lost contact with him, but was happy to see him show up on this forum.

I hope you will beat the cancer, Bud! I'll be thinking about you.

Does anyone have any updates on Bud's condition? He's been in our thoughts and prayers and was wondering if anyone had any updates.

Bud was working on a '29 on '32 rails for our "Salt Flats" cult theme. The yellow paint had been finished.

I know that some of the NNL crew were planning to stop by to see Bud at the care facility on the way home from the NNL Nats last Saturday.

I will be visiting with Steve Perry later today, Steve is very close to Bud and maybe he will have an update.

I know Bud will be very touched by your concerns.
