Guys my Willy's is givin' me problems, I can't seem to make a hing that'll let the doors clear the fenders with out it taking up the Whole inside of the car.

Hey Nick, it's kinda hard to visualize. Can you post a picture?

Just thinking off the top of my head, can you put the pivot point on the door rather than the body? That way the front edge of the door will swing inwards as the rear of the door swings outwards.

Or do you think piano hinges will work? Theres a place I have saved that has miniature piano hinges in different sizes.

Nick, I'll look to see if I got any in the boxes I got,If I do, I'll send em along with the headlights. You SHOULD be gettin the instruction sheets any day ! B);)

Not sure what you mean. A '41 Willys has very simple external door hinges... there's no way the door won't clear the fender unless you made the fender waaaaaay wider than stock.

Hi Nick

Do a search on MrObsessives' posts over the past couple of months. He has shown how to make hindges on one of his recent posts. I have a '41 Willys' on the bench and there seems to be plenty of room for hidges under the dash.

When I was 13 I was still messing around with engine and tire swaps. Like I've said before at the rate your going you'll be a master by the time you hit mid 20's. If I can offer any advice, get real good at a few things instead of trying everything at once. Youy've got more courage then most of us did at your age.

Godd luck

Nick, there are a lot of hinges available for R/C model planes control surfaces. There are some flap hinges that have the pivot point ahead of the hinge body. They might work. Some of them will be too big for 1/25 scale, but might be worth a look to get ideas. Try Tower Hobbies or Hobby Lobby.

Nick, you need piano type hinges for that type of door. That generation Willys' were manufactured at a time before envelope bodies and such did away with those type of hinges.

Model Car Garage sells hinges made for street rods with those type of hinges..............they're tiny pieces though and not for beginners.

Click the link here to check 'em out.

If you try to go with the gooseneck type hinge you're trying to do---------you're going to have trouble simply because there's no shoulder on the body to make a sufficient door jamb to "hide" the hinges when the door is closed.

Hope this helps! B)

Nick, since I have no idea of exactly what you are doing with your Willy’s, I may be off base here, but if you are not doing a bone stock build up, why not look into “suicide†doors that would hinge from the rear. The rear of the door has a very simple straight edge to it so the hinging will be much easier. Just a thought.

Also, look at the old Revell Stones, Wood & Cook kit to see how they hinge those opening doors. You should be able to replicate those hinges from scrap plastic pieces. Either way, good luck.

EDIT ADDED LATER : Nick, I just looked at the link to your build which I did not see earlier...I see it is an old SWC model......so obviously, you can see the hinges that came with the kit and that is not going to help you. So, I would consider the suicide hinge. I built up a Revell Willy's (new tooling) and opened the doors and added suicide hinges and thay worked out very well. Good luck.

Ben- What exactly are you trying to explain.

George- Thanks George, I think probley Monday they'll be here.

Harry- Yes but My fenders are bigger the kit was a drag car, I converted it to be sorta stock. And my hinges are long gone.

Plastic Freak- I'll check them out, and Thanks.

Sixties Sam- I'll look into them.

MrObsessive- Thanks Bill.

Peter Lombardo- I'd like to stay away from suicide doors, but if I have to I could go that route.
