MrObsessive Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Well?? Details man, details!! Believe it or not, I've got TWO of those originals, One built and one barely touched in the original box. And this from a guy who's not a street rod person at all..........the kit is just that nice. Maybe settle for a third one?
george 53 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Not a 1/8 guy myself, but my Big Brudder had one of them years ago, that he souped up with some of those old hop up kits they usta make for them! It was cool! If you fly with that monster, you'll probly hafta buy an EXTRA seat for it!!! Can we see some pics of it? Like Bill said, Details Daddy-O, Details!!!
Custom Hearse Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 MAN!!! I didn't see that one coming! I didn't even know Revell was going to produce A 1/8th scale tub... I thought it was a 1/24th when I first looked at it. Then I read George's post, and had to look at it again! COOLNESS!!!
old-hermit Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Yes, I got it today. aaaahhhhhh (feet up on desk, hands behind head, smirk on face....) So wheres the review ????????????????
horsepower Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Do you think if we all start to flood Revell's web site with requests that they might offer a few of the old hop-up kits again? I'd like to see the six twos, the injection, & maybe the 4-71, with a single Holley carb instead of the Hilborns.
horsepower Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Gregg, you are obviously too busy to get to this build, what with all of your other projects, & the magazine. Sooo to show where my heart is, you can send it to me, & I will have something new to work on when I get the cast off my arm(elbow surgery again) & am down with the neck surger recovery.
Gregg Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Revell graciously sent their new 1/8 scale Big Tub for a quick look before this classic kit hits the shelves, so I asked Rich Robertson and Chris Delfico to give their two cents on the kit. They will both be doing building reviews of the kit for the next issue. Thanks, guys! It’s great to have club members who are willing to jump in and help out. Gregg Rich: The kit is virtually unchanged from the classic issue. The only significant change is the wheels and tires, which are lifted off of the current Big T reissue. The original kit used a solid tire, and we now have the thin rubber hollow tire with whitewall inserts, and steelies as an option. I like the flame decals and I will probably use them on my version of this build. The original Big Tub decals are included for those that want to go “back in time!†I will be using the five-spoke rims and will not go with the whitewall look, they'll be painted black. The inclusion of the pickup bed seems like a waste of plastic, but it was probably easier to just use the same sprue, as many of the parts are common to the Big T. It shares the same chassis and rims as the recent T-Bucket kit. This kit today replicates the original Big Tub, with some additions from the newer T-Bucket release. I’m really happy that the parts came clean from the old molds; there is basically no flash on the parts. Included in the kit are clear fuel lines and ignition wiring. However, there are no spark plugs, as were in the old kit. One thing I don’t like about the exhaust system is that the back side of the pipes are hollow, and if you are a judge at a contest, this is one thing you will notice right away! The seats and seat belts are original pieces, with nice sixties-style buckles. With the exception of the slicks, there are no competition-style accessories in this kit. A tonneau cover would have been a nice addition. The new pinstriping decals are different from the original kit, and I was pleased to find the “flying eyeball†included. The decal sheet also includes a choice of either black or white dash instruments, as in the original kit. I really like the cycle fenders. I will be using these on my build. The fact that the entire suspension and drivetrain is chrome will make this an easy build for an out-of-the-box model for some. Chris: I agree with what Rich says. It would have been nice to see the old stanchions, tools and other accessories that were included in previous versions of this kit, as opposed to the extra plastic used for the pickup bed. I will be building mine as an old rat rod, using the white walls, kind of like the version on the box. Thanks for this opportunity, Gregg.
jbwelda Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 just got back from a week in the desert...found a big tub project car: sorry for off topic sorta but just had to share. this was at russells camp in the panamint mountains bordering death valley. beautiful this time of year and that cabin has solar heated shower and all!
buzzconroy Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 The original Big Tub had six carbs, this one has just three, like Big T, so I was disappointed. Randy
MikeMc Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 AHHHHHHHH Greg....I've seen yur mug......Your lucky to get the Tub
horsepower Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) just got back from a week in the desert...found a big tub project car: sorry for off topic sorta but just had to share. this was at russells camp in the panamint mountains bordering death valley. beautiful this time of year and that cabin has solar heated shower and all! A great picture, 'tis a late teens Dodge, I have a friend that has one that is in complete unrestored condition, & a C cab truck that was highly modified into a roadster, that has won countless awards. The older Chrysler cars aren't as plentiful as Fords are. Edited December 5, 2009 by horsepower
RatRod Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 It's really great to see the BIG TUB make a comeback!!! It would have been awesome if Revell could have found the six carb manifold that was originally found in the kit, but after writting to them about it, their reply was "We can't find the molds for it". I wonder if they remember that the six carb manifold was offered in a separate "Parts Pack" kit? I really wish they would dig a little deeper to see if the blower, and drag parts are still around to bring back the BIG DRAG, and the correct headers for the BIG ROD as all the rest of both kits were included in the last issue of the BIG T. Anyway, here is a fresh build of the reissued BIG TUB by a good friend, and fellow modeler Paul "BOOM" Burke. Paul custom mixed the redish orange paint to match the original BIG TUB plastic, and did a masterful job building this......
Gregg Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Rich and Chris came over tonight with their finished Big Tubes. I did something different, and it will be something I will be doing as often as I can. We are doing video reviews also, from the guys that build and review the models. Here is the YouTube link: Let me know what you think!
george 53 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Great Video! The guys built some NICE lookin models! 1/8th is a bit too large for my taste(too big to fit on my shelves) but they DO make some nice lookin rods! I STILL gotta few of them sittin around, maybe I SHOULD give 'em a shot!
