Hi Guys: Found this old Karman Ghia. Only ID is the letters KG molded into the bottom side. It's not a very accurite model. About 1/25 scale. I have a couple of Revell VW convertible kits. The question is build with the VW stuff or chop out the wheelwells jack up the nose, add a straight axle for a gasser style build. Thanks, Merk

Looks like a Palmer or Pyro oldie...and it's fugly to boot. I'd say keep it as-is or ditch it, and grab a Gunze version to do as a gasser.

It definitely is too screwed to look like a real KG, so... maybe a full blown custom?

Clean it up, then maybe radius the wheel openings to fit some 19" wheels?

Maybe say "bye bye" to the interior? I say it looks like a challenge!

Revell did do a Karmann Gihia but the body was a multi piece affair back I think in the late fifties , very early sixties . I had one too. The one you have , Pyro perhaps ? Ed Shaver

I remember that kit caz i had it! it's a Palmer Plastics kit. I remember the frame on it. This was a early/mid-60's kit, an you can bet I was surpriced when i tried to build it, after haveing gotten used to REAL model kits, like AMT,an MPC,and Revell.

The guys are right, it's junk.Nothing more,nothing less. ;)

Yes it's a Palmer, or Premier. They were strange kits. Had some interesting bodies, but out of proportion. Like the Karmann Ghia, an early Porsche, Volvo P1800, and maybe some more? They all had this generic silly chassis, with a V8. I remember somtime in the late 80's, I got hold of the P1800 for someone, and I thought it was a joke! But the guy wanted the P1800.... :D

Hi Guys:

I gave it a wet sanding and mocked up a gasser look and .......................................... an open wheel hot rod!

If you think this one is Fugly wait untill you see my fishing tackle box motor home project <img src="http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

That looks to be headed in a good direction!

I agree, it looks like you are on the way to making that sow's ear into a silk purse. I'd almost recommend cutting the interior tub out and fabbing a new one so there's room for a single racing seat and a roll bar, but you may want to keep this one as simple and painless as possible.

Yep,Merk, the gasser is the way ta go. The wheels do look much nicer INSIDE the fenders. If ya gotta rebuild it, that's the way ta go Daddy-O! You could probly build you a nice gasser frame to stick under it. It does kinda look like it could be one of them Fiberglass bodied race cars! It looks like you CAN bring 'er back pretty good!GO FOR IT!!;);)

This is one for the creative among us because any resemblance between this and a KG are purely coincidental! :D I suggest the gasser route. Tell 'em its a "kit car" body. ;) The body looks like something that was designed after an entire bottle of Old Grand Dad. (That's whiskey for those still wet behind the ears). Keep up the good work and you may indeed make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
