Guys, what about we start a list with the most great engines in the automotive history???

Plus, could we identify which plastic model kit carries these ones? I mean… for example. The best kit that contains a Ford 427 engine is…. The best kit that contains a Hemi 426 is… and so on…

Who could start it?

I can input some nice mills:

Chevy

350

383

454

502

572

Corvette’s Family

Ford

Flathead

289

302

331

347

427

Dodge

426 Hemi

318 V8

326 V8

340 V8

383 V8

400 V8

426 V8

Pontiac

400

467

Don’t be shy and don’t take this initial list as a limit.. free your mine…

I’ll keep this first topic updated as you guys are answering…

Let’s try it?

Detroit Diesel 8V71

Someone on this site put a list together of available kit engines a few years back. I don't seem to have the link anymore though, but I do think I have the list somewhere.

i'll add the 302 that chevy built for the trans-am circuit. screamin lil mouse

I was thinking the same thing.

AMC

390

401

Crazy beefy blocks with 2.02 intake vales and 1.95 exhaust both cut on a 30deg on the seat face and a back cut on top of that. These blocks could be bored out .125 and still run strong all day.

AMT Madador NASCAR kits, the entire AMC v8 line up from the 304 to the 401 was almost impossible to tell what engine was which without being able to look at the side of the block, which is where the cid denotation was found.

Mopar

340 with the W2 heads used on the TA option cars.

The heads could only be identified by certian casting marks on the end of the heads (I forget what they are). So as far as which kit, any of the TA option '70-'71 Cuda, Challenger.

Buick

425, couldn't tell ya which kit you'd find that in.

For any FE Ford (331, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428) the amt 60 Starliner is a great starting point. You may have to dig around for the valve covers and intake you want, but the base engine is outstanding.

The AMT 66 Fairlane and 67 Cyclone kits off excellent FE's as well.

 Where's the 351w

Where's the 351C? Good enough to power the Boss 351 Mustangs and De Tomaso Panteras. I understand there's a good one in the new Revell Mach 1.

'58 Edsel- 360 with automatic

Lindberg '53 Ford. Some accuracy gripes, but its got the Ford-O-Matic behind it.

AMT '56 Thunderbird 292. Undersized, but again, it has the Ford- O-Matic.

AMT '67 Mustang. Probably one of the best renditions of the small block. Can be used to replicate the 221, 260 and 289 variants.

AMT '66 Fairlane/ '67 Comet. My favorite Effie. Can be used as a starting point to replicate any big block- 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 427 and 428.

Revell '70 Torino. Best of the '385' engine family (429 and 460).

Unfortunately, the only MEL available is in the '65 Lincoln, but with a bit of TLC, it can be used for the 383, 410 and 430.
