E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 (edited) Been thinkin' about all the stuff all you guys like to build, but we usually have to search around all the different topics to see all you stuff. Be fun to see all the different kinds of cars you like from Grand Prix, to tuners, to dragsters of all the decades, to street rods, Pocher kits (HARRY), classics, customs, rat-rods, weathered, or whatever - YOU GET THE IDEA <img src="http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I'll start. Here's some of my fav's, I have a nice stash, but I've seen some of your guys stuff - OH MY <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> . Too many fav's to name just one, that's why I have so many. Never build them all, but love to collect, and some I buy because I love the box-art. Edited August 8, 2010 by Treehugger Dave
crispy Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 My tastes varied for a long time before I settled down on the kits I like the most. Mainly Exotic and Foreign. I do buy almost anything that tickles my eye. Collector/Builder here too. Here's some looks at what I've got: The "truck" section: Foreign Section(mainly) Odds & Ends: Some I have some I don't. Part of the hobby too I guess. Of course not all are seen in these photo's, but you get the gist of it. Chris
Craig Irwin Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I'm glad I'm not the only one with kits stuffed everywhere! My favorite kit for building is the Revell 69 Camaro, it can be kitbashed into so many variations. My favorite kit for parts is the AMT 69 GTX. A local wholesaler was dumping these cheap years ago so I bought a ton of them and the chassis updates all of those Mopar kits from the 60's just fine. Anybody need a GTX body?
Crazy Ed Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 My favorites are the 60's - 70's Prototypes. Here's a good start Ed
Trans Am Erik Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Some of my favorites are the Monogram '78 Trans Am, Monogram '69 Charger, AMT '49 Merc, Monogram '69 Camaro, AMT '32 Ford, Monogram '58 Plymouth, modern funny car kits.
JayC Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I guess the kinds of kits I am drawn to most are classic and contemporary American muscle cars, sports cars, and trucks. I haven't built too many vehicles over the years, but my favorite one I have done has always been the Dodge Ram VTS. I'm going to get another one eventually.
Nick Winter Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 What do Ya'll think My favorite its are?
AMT Pacemakers Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 (edited) Well, anything hot rod... but I just got on a period pre-war thing!! Hot rodded of course CCSS Edited November 26, 2009 by Coker Creek Speed Shop
Lownslow Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 AOSHIMA wheels could care less whether their on a car or not
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 My favorite kits have to be the MPC muscle car annuals, followed by their counterparts from AMT and Johan, and reissues thereof. Here's a few pictures of my stash. Not all these boxes contain unbuilt kits. Many are dismantled builders that happened to come with the vintage box. Many kits are hidden from view because they are stacked two deep on the shelving units. I also have a large plastic tub full of vintage builders in baggies and a number of resin repops of hard to find vintage muscle car kits. Also not shown is my collection of Aoshima wheel sets(sorry Lownslow ). I love restoring the vintage builders. To me, it is almost as much fun as finding and restoring a 1:1. The thrill of finding the car, dismantling it, seeing what work it needs, finding missing or hard to find parts. The hobby means different things to each of us, but the one element we share is the FUN!
disabled modeler Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 hi everyone, my favorites are fairly vast .....1960 to mid 70s from jo-han, mpc, amt, smp, ertl blueprint series, cars,4 door, wagons, vans, pickups, big trucks, trailers, ect. monograms show rods, and am starting to get into diorama, i usually build factory stock versions however will from time to time build custom vans, farm tractors, speed boats. i seem to be called by the strange and grandma cars. all in 1/25th or 1/24th scale. sometimes it really nice to be able to build a plane jane everyday car instead of always a super muscle car.......................mark
my name is nobody Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I'm partial to the monogram / revell stuff. The 1970 Mustang Sport roof in all of its versions. The 1967 Corvette Big Block (coupe or Roadster). The 1970 Torino Cobra / Torino GT. The 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. The 1969 Dodge Dart GTS. Have loads of these stashed away, and never hesitate to buy a few when I stumble upon them. my interest is mainly muscle cars, and these kits build into nice replicas.
disabled modeler Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 hi mark nellis, sweet collection!!!! a lot of the same things make us tick, just looking at the old box art raises my spirits knowing that there are still some of them out there. i save the old boxes just to look at, makes better wall paper than my wife can pick out. ill take a thumb tack in the center of the bottom half into the wall then slide lid on, doesnt hurt them a bit. know any good hobby shops in my area like yours?.............thanks mark

I agree about the Revell and Monogram stuff......Their kits just seem to me to be just a bit better than AMT stuff.
Modelmartin Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 For Nostalgia I am an AMT Trophy series kit kind of guy. I love them! Great kits, great boxes, great subjects. I like to collect the original issue boxes for them. I have about a 500 or so big pile of kits and it would be tough to say what my favorite is. How can you pick out your favorite child out of so many?
Eshaver Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Early Fords - Flathead V-8 powered , 1932-53 . Then trucks all kinds to the time Elvis died , then theys all junk anyway . Ed Shaver
Harry P. Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Be fun to see all the different kinds of cars you like from Grand Prix, to tuners, to dragsters of all the decades, to street rods, Pocher kits (HARRY)... Yessir! I like my model kits BIG and COMPLICATED! The more parts, the better I like the kit. The only downside to being a Pocher guy is the $$$$... But I just bought another Pocher the other day (thanks, Mr. Obsessive!)
B_rad88 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 question is this a thread for favorite kits or a thread for your whole stash? just curious! lol, and to be honest, i have to many to list as my favs! but I'll get pics of my stash and witch ones out of my stash is my favs! (not listing the ones i would love to have and would die for!)
charlie8575 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Subjects: American cars, some foreign for a little variety, and I can find anything from any era I like, but I prefer independents, orphans, and Buicks. Kits: AMT and Jo-Han, Revell, Monograms '30s classics and Pyro's 1/32 brass-era kits. Charlie Larkin
LVZ2881 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 big fan of Monogram kits top Monogram kit's for me are the flip-front '66 Chevelle's and the '70 SS454 3-n-1. then it's the musclecar kits after that like the '69 Superbee and the '70 Challenger T/A kit. Dave I totally agree Dave, those old Monogram kits are'nt the most detailed kits, but they just have the right "look" when done... The '70 Boss 429 Mustang '69 SuperBee '71 GTX '71 Hemi Cuda '80 Trans AM (building one right now) '70 Chevelle SS '79 Z28 '78 Corvette.... all great examples...
Chuck Most Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Some of my all-time faves include: AMT '53 FORD F-100- Very nice parts breakdown and a nice scale representation of the second gen Effie. The De Soto Hemi and custom bits are just icinig! AMT '49 FORD Coupe- Pretty much for the same reasons as the '53. This kit has some of the best steel wheels I've seen in scale. Lindberg '34 Ford Pickup- What can I say? Possibly the best light-commercial truck kit ever produced. So many possible building styles for this one... just like the 1/1 truck! Revell '64 Ford Thunderbolt/Fairlane- The T-Bolt was nice, the recently added quasi-stock Fairlane parts made this kit even better! I've been waiting 20 years for those stock hubcaps in 1/25 scale! Too bad they didn't throw in a bench seat and a 289 (or even a 170 six-cylinder) while they were at it! AMT/Revell Deuces- They're apples and oranges, but I like any 1/25 Deuce. The AMT kits are a simple way to do a trad rod, and the Revells are the best jumping off point for a modern rod. Galaxie Limited '46-'48 Chevys- They're the 'wrong' make, but the kit is just incredible! That kit has the best Stovebolt six in scale form ever, though I'd still prefer a Flathead! AMT '29 Model A Roadster- Again, a nicely done kit with lots of possibilities. AMT '25 Ford Model T- (see above), the 430 Lincoln V8 is a definite plus as well! And a few others that emotion and nostalgia prevent me from remembering all at once...
Guest arni Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 My all time favourite kit is the Tamiya MK1 Mini Cooper S,I have about 10-12 build up in different ways-I even have a twin engined Mini, often refered to as a Twini.. 5 Mini's on the go at the moment and a few more in the stash.
Janne Herajärvi Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 All kind of Impalas! Any make, any model! After them all kind of muscle cars!
Aaronw Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I'm rather fond of AMT's Ford C and Louisville. They are usually affordable, no major building headaches and the possibilities for them go on and on with different variations of the base truck and then tons of options for the "load", tankers, snow plows, fire apparatus, delivery trucks, ag trucks, special purpose etc etc. I wouldn't want to limit myself but if I had to I could probably build nothing but these two kits without getting bored or repeating myself as long as I had a well stocked parts box. I also really like Revell's 1929 and 1950 Ford trucks, and AMT's 1941, 1950 and 1960 Chevy trucks. Just pleasant kits with many options.
Harold Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Some of my favorites?..... Monogram '87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe AMT '60 Starliner (I'm using the chassis and floorpan to update the '61, '63 and '64 Fords, and the '64 Mercury). AMT, Revell and Lindberg '97 F- 150's (lots of kitbashing possibilities- I'm up to ten different ones so far). AMT '65 Ford. Again, the chassis can be modified for use under any body on frame Ford from '65 to the mid- 70's (and I'm using the whole chassis under the '66). Lindberg '53 Fords. One built stock, the convertible's getting a hopped up flathead, and my other hardtop will probably end up with a supercharged 312 from the '57 Ford. AMT '67 Impala SS. The chassis, floorpan and engine compartment can be adapted to quite a few B and C body GM cars of the same vintage. But usually, my favorite kit is the one I'm working on at any given time.... .
