Best Way To Clean Sable Brushes Used in Acrylic

So I find myself, like many other model car guys using a lot more acrylic paints for interiors, etc. I have been told a red sable brush is best. Be that as it may. Acrylic washes out with water quite easily. But I have heard that it is best to clean acrylic brushes with alcohol. Does anyone have any advice or experience that I can use to preserve these brushes.

I usually dry them on some paper tissue first to remove most of the paint, then give them a good wash in Isopropyl Alcohol, then rinse in clean water, then reshape the bristles and then just leave to dry

It is important to clean you brushes immediately after use. I have found that dried acrylic is harder to get out than dried enamel, especially out of an airbrush, but also regular brushes. For still wet acrylics I use alcohol, Fantastic, or other strong cleaner.

Yes, never believe a label that says water clean up, when it comes to acrylic paint. I usually put the brush in a bowl or jar of water immediately after using it, but to get completely clean, I have had sucess with rubbing alcohol or methyl hydrate. On airbrushes water won't even make a dent in the paint thats dried on the sides of the cup or the needle tip. I go straight to the lacquer thinner for that.

Hey guys,

When I use acrylics, I clean them with an item found at any craft store called "Pink Soap"

It is used to clean brushes and it does not dry out the bristles.Alcohol dries out the brushes and the natural oils in the brush.

My wife is an artist and she helps me with things like this and choosing colors.

When you use acrylics, as soon as you are done, rinse it with water, then the soap,working it with fingers and then rinsing it with water.

The soap is used for cleaning,protecting and preserving the bristles.

Iv'e mentioned this before and I'll mention it again , get Goof - Off ! Yep Goof - Off avalible from most any Home Depoit and Lowes in the paint department . This stuff works to preserve ANY Rock Hard Brush ! Ed Shaver
