Ace_88Z Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Hi guys !! I'm a newbie to the forum, and I'm looking forward to gaining a lot of knowledge while I'm on here. Recently I was bored so I pulled out an old model I had under my bed, and decided to build it. The model, an 85' Z28. It was my favorite car as a kid, and actually owned a few, so I was happy to build it. I was happy with the finished product being that I hadn't done a model in over 5 years. So I decided to buy another model to build, while searching over the net I quickly discovered how deep and extensive the modeling hobby was. I was completely blown away by the detail, parts and level of customization that I had seen people doing. Fast forward 3 weeks, I have most of the supplies I need to get knee deep in a customization/build. Ordered some Tamiya products, including some Quick Type Epoxy Putty for fabrication and other things. If your still reading this I do actually have a question. One thing I have a hard time of understanding is, how exactly do you guys get all the different wheels and rims for your cars. Mainly the tuner cars, I really want to build my Fujimi RX7 (just bought !) with some really cool (realistic) rims. But I don't know exactly what brand to look for or what size I should be buying. All of these things are new to me so please be kind, I don't know about this stuff yet. Also I included a pic of my Z28 that I finished a few weeks ago and the pic is just the finished body. Hopefully someone reads this, sorry for the length, but I've been waiting to actually have a place for me to discuss this with people who can actually understand. Thanks, Ace-
charlie8575 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Welcome, Ace. Great paint job on the Camaro, by the way. To answer your question about rims, although I don't build tuners/lowriders or stuff like this, I can tell you that one place a lot of these guys get their rims from is Fujimi, I think there are some other manufacturers of those rims, though, but I wouldn't dare swear to it. Many kits also come with rims that are appropriate to your building style as optional rims, and those of us who don't use them would probably be willing to give/sell/swap them with you. One thing asked of registrants here is to at least put your first name in the signature line. You can set that in your options. Charlie Larkin
Foxer Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Welcome to the forum and that paint job IS very shiny! Nice job on that! Another source of wheels is Pegasus, which makes many styles.
george 53 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I don't build tuners so I can't be of any help there, but Charlie and Mike are right, Fujimi and Pegasus are GREAT for the types os wheels your lookin for. That Camaro's lookin pretty good too. I like the color. Oh, and WELCOME to the BEST model car forum on the PLANET!!!
disabled modeler Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Hi Ace...........welcome back to the hobby, ect. nice Z28 . my brother had a 92 RS 25th anniversary, boy that thing could run! im not a tuner builder but i believe theres a lot of wheels available in the aftermarket feild and lots of kits that include big custom wild wheels. i dont think anything i have has any but i will look......but can make you any promises. if i do i will get back to you..........mark
cruz Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have these old style RX7 rims done in resin, the original plastic ones were given to me by a very good friend of mine (thanks Luis). They were casted by one of the finest resin casters in the business, if you are interested I might be able to contact him and give you his number so that you may order a few sets from him! I am planning on using them on a future project I have in mind....
cruz Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 He also did these old style Supra rims for me...... Hosted on Fotki
Ace_88Z Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) Thanks guys for the warm welcome ! I can already tell I'm in the right place, I'm glad to be here. Also thanks for the compliments on the Z28, I'm pretty proud of it, hopefully I can progress and get even better ! I'll checkout those companies and see what I can find. And as far as any wheels you guys have laying around that would be appropriate for a tuner let me know, I would appreciate it ! Those resin wheels look really cool, I might get with you on that. Also check out this '70 Boss 302 that I'm building on the side, I have mocked a set of Viper wheels (yes viper sorry Ford purists) and a supercharged 5.4 lightning motor. Tell me what ya think. I would suggest using a Photobucket account to upload things, which will circumvent that problem. You can upload your pictures there for free, and follow the instrucitons here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12248 Modify the instructions regarding the camera as-needed if your pictures are on floppy, CD or a memory stick.
