Chuck Most Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I'm looking for a set of these style wheel covers in 1/24 or 1/25 scale... I'd like to use the AMT/Ertl Ford F-150 longbed to build a model of my 1:1 '94 F-250 (yep, the one in the photo), but without the proper wheel covers, I'm kind of stuck! I'd appreciate any help!
FordWagonNut Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Yea, I have been looking for the same wheel covers. I had a '91 F-250 and had been wanting to do a model like mine for a long time......just can find the right wheel covers.
Eric Stone Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 This kit- Has very similar wheels, although they might not have enough little fins to be the same as the truck. I have a couple at home from a parts kit I picked up last nite. I'll measure to see what size they scale out to. They might be 15", but could be around 16", I'm not sure. I wonder if the hub and lugnuts could be removed, and replaced with resin dirt track car pieces, then cast in resin...? I'll get back to ya on the size, and take some closer up photos of the wheel this evening.
Eric Stone Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Well they're not really that close, just kinda reminiscent of the truck wheels. They have 16 holes/spokes. They measure out to about the right size. They kinda fit the tires from the Revell F350. You can't see, but it's in there loose. They fit these Goodyears better. They're too big for the ones with "255/60/R15" on them, but will fit the ones that only say "FLEXTEN". I don't really have any other big tires to test fit. Here's how they look under the F350 cab. They're a bit off, and most notably need a new centercap and 2x the lugnuts, plus the spokes/holes aren't exactly right.
Chuck Most Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 If the 'fin' detail was a bit better, they'd work perfectly. Cutting off the original hub and lug nuts and making your own hub and adding some resin acorn nuts is a pretty good idea, I'd never even seen these wheels before today!
george 53 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Chuck, Revell made an old snapper Trans Am in black with caps that look per near whatcha got there. They'd need ta have that center hub and lugs attached, but the outer "spokie" area looks dead nuts to yer truck wheels. I THINK i only have one layin round here somewheres. IF i can find it, I'll send it to ya and MAYBE you could get it cast. Try Alan Raab, He's GREAT for doin one off odd ball stuff!

George, you mean these? 1979 1981 The fins definitely look better, but they almost look too concave, and I wonder if the size is right. Definitely worth looking into!
george 53 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Eric My MAN!!! Yeah, Daddy-O, them the ones!!! Maybe if Chuck can adapt the center hub and lugs to them they MIGHT work. I just don't know if they'd be large enough to fit into them big ol truck tires. But Yeah, Chuck waddaya think???

Here are two pictures of my old truck with the hubcaps...... If you guys decide to cast a few in resin, please let me know. Been wanting to do a model of my '91 for a LONG time.
Eric Stone Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 The Turbo T/A wheels have 20 holes, the F250 wheels have 24. I bet NOBODY would notice the difference in scale though, unless they owned (and were obsessed with) the truck. haha

Eric Stone Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 You're totally talking about me, right? Heh I'd notice something like that on a model of one of my vehicles. There are a few of those Turbo Trans-Ams on eBay right now...

Chuck Most Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 Miight be easyer to change wheels on the 1to1. james litteral You know... that thought has crossed my mind!
Eric Stone Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Thought I had something here... These wheels are on a TootsieToy '57 Chevy. They measure out to exactly 16.5" in 1/24 scale. They have 16 holes, and are 6-lug. I remembered this thread, and went searching for it... I find the thread and re-read it just to find out (again) that the 1:1 is 8-lug, and has 24 holes in the wheels... Oh well. Here are some pics of the source of these wheels, in case anyone wants to try to use some on a model. They'd need some work to fit a model, probably just need to be cut down to take the width off the back side of them.
cargostar Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I was browsing Evil-bay last night and saw some. Don't know anything about them, or who it is, but here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/Resin-Ford-Truck-Van-Wheels-1-24-1-25-F-250-8-Lug_W0QQitemZ220602018444QQcategoryZ2584QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7397284962959013298
