Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Wow, you are adapting your own technique there. The texture on the sides of the body is excellent. You should consider using some pastel powders on those tracks to really dirty them up. Good work and progress, buddy. It's looking mean and deadly! Keep it going!
Jantrix Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I think using a green pad (abrasive) on the painted-on-salt under some warm water, might help out. For one, it might loosen up a lot of the salt, two it will cut down on that gloss. Salt works best with larger crystals (kosher salt or ice cream salt, you can always crush it finer if you want to) and then cover it up with flat paints. I use simple Krylon flats (with their great new nozzles). I get good coverage and the salt particles still come off okay. After that I scrub with a soft toothbrush and then scrub again with a little 91% alcohol which will feather out the paint where the salt was and it will help reveal more of your rust colors underneath. Grab a junk body and give it another try.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 How about some progress, some eye candy before the brain is eaten up by the Super Bowl tomorrow?
Railfreak78 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Cranky I hate to say it... I have No progress... My daughter turned 16 and her party was postponed to today she has everyone over and its funny cause my kid has no interests in cars but her and her friends play "zombies" at parks every weekend. They have to to change sides human and zombie on different rounds. Now my daughter HAD to show her friends ( as a parent I'm not allowed to hang out) my truck. They LOVE it!!!! I'm so happy.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Cool, man. Yeah, enjoy the kids soon they leave to go away to school or work . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 How about a Saints inspired post-apocalyptic vehicle?
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 <~~~~~~~~ NOT TOUCHING THAT ONE WITH THE CANNON ON MY SUBURBAN!!!
charlzrocks Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Nightingales Corpse Removal is done! I haven't the experience or patience to do the aging process as well as the crank, but here it is, an Ill fitting Polar Lights ECTO-1 Snap Tite kit I might add! I just completely ran out of patience with this one! Features: The black hoses on the side lead from the "Blood Vaccume" on the roof to a longer hose housed in the back of the vehicle for sucking up excess blood. The Brass tubing near the broken ladder on the side leads from the fuel tank to the flame thrower fuel tank mounted on the roof. Flame thrower is for cremating mass amounts of bodies and fighting off hordes of attacking zombies. It has the obligatory siren and lights, bullet holes, cracked windshield, some rust and greyed out white walls. Comments..........
Dr. Cranky Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Perfect vehicle for the caravan!!! Love it . . . you did a great job working in all the weathering and the details the kit has. Those decals are just right. Congrats!!!
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) That is one bad to the bone death ride! I love the blood all over the door handles and down the sides. Love the rust on the bumpers too! How the heck you get your own decals?? I need to do that for my pool care truck on the workbench. Nice car man and I'm glad you joined the build with us. This has been so fun I may just have to make a car for the Zombie side Edited February 8, 2010 by Railfreak78
Jantrix Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Okay I've got the kit in hand, should be starting soon. Looking forward to this one.
charlzrocks Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 That is one bad (censored) death ride! I love the blood all over the door handles and down the sides. Love the rust on the bumpers too! How the heck you get your own decals?? I need to do that for my pool care truck on the workbench. Nice car man and I'm glad you joined the build with us. This has been so fun I may just have to make a car for the Zombie side Thanks Guys! The decals I made using MS Paint and Ink Jet Decal paper made by www.Papilio.com After you print the decals on the paper, you just spray coat the paper with Krylon Clear (gloss, or FLAT like mine), cut them out and Voila! I guess the inspiration was from the old "Max Headroom" tv series. They actually had a place on the series called "Nightingales Body Bank". I really wish I had the patience to do the weathering better, but using enamel rattle cans don't work too well with the salting technique. Best to use airbrush acrylics per Cranky. But it has been fun, I learned a lot!!

Wow you make our work cut out for us May I ask everyone what is a decent grate material? Like for head lights, grills, windshield areas? I see some of you have some cool resources. Thanks.. Happy Hobby'n Here is my beginning.. great work buddy
Blake Rogers Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Ok fellow survivors of the apocalypse....here is a preliminary photo of my build! I will be playing "Clean-up" with this vehicle that will be called "Nightingales Corpse Removal". This is a first shot of paint and I am trying to avoid the "Flat Black/War Camo/Derelict" paint scheme that will be prevelant with a lot of the cars that I will be picking up the bodies after. Although, I would appreciate any suggestions on the paint scheme!! From the looks of the vehicles I've seen, this is gonna be an awesome community build! looks great so far
Blake Rogers Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 So wow since this build off is bringing some really and I mean really cool ideas and creativity I kinda changed my idea. Its still going to be my first Suburban kitbash but I'm going to put an old war flare to it and make it a Half Track style truck. I started with 3 truck kits and a Tamiya Tank and here is my 24 hour progress from the 3 trucks (including dunk tank time). Comments welcome as always loooks sick buddy i love it
Blake Rogers Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 What's in a name? i love it cranky i really do
Blake Rogers Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Ok here is today's progress after figuring out PhotoBucket woohooo!!!! So lots more body work was done and I'm soon to hit primer stage so I started some weapons that I wan to primer also. The body is not perfect and I had to tell myself this is for post apac build not a show truck so I want it imperfect. Today I added a hatch and the beginning of window armor as well as protective roof mount windows for the tail gunner and a navigator up front. The passenger side windshield will be all armor as well. Enjoy! nice WORK it looks sick
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Great work, guys. I can't wait to get started on mine. Still need some more ideas.
