noname Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 (edited) Someone gave me this kit to see what I'd do with it. I'll admit, these are not among my favorite automobiles. However, it's really not that bad a kit. So my plan is to make this a mild Gasser circa 1960. A car whose owner does not exactly have a whole lot of cash. He drives this through the week and races it on the weekends. I started by shaving off the side trim. Then I added front springs and shackles to the rear springs. I would have added brake/fuel lines but couldn't find a pic. to show me how they went. Oh well. Then came the weathering . I also weathered the engine , adding a bit of the original colour...what was left. The rear tire tread is going to be worn quite a bit. And the body of course will have it's fair share of use as well. Thanks for looking. Edited December 19, 2009 by noname
Foxer Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I love these Mercs in any form. And, really like the idea behind this one to boot!
noname Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Think I got the engine done. Trying to figure out how to do the hood hinges. I'd like to make some that work but I'm afraid I'd go nuts. These cars actually have like two sets on each side.
weasel Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 yeah, gotta have dumps for the exhaust, just in case somebody wants to run ya one nite...
noname Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) Thanks guys. These engines always look better in person than in a blown up photo. But it will be fine once in the car. Thanks for the offer Dave. I'm actually doing something different for a change. I'm not even putting slicks on the car. I would put them in the trunk but there will be no room. Some guys never even run slicks because of cost or whatever. This is going to be fairly weathered. Not a wreck or anything. Just real worn in. It will look more like the car being driven on the street. Barely even a Gasser. The car wouldn't even be that fast in real life. Thats what I get a kick out of. If you were running anything under 17 seconds in a car like this back in 59-60 you'd be doindg okay. I have a Willys project I'm starting too. 426 Wedge and some weathering as well. Was inspired by a car in the last Rod and Kulture. Edited December 30, 2009 by noname
mr moto Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Thanks guys. These engines always look better in person than in a blown up photo. But it will be fine once in the car. Personally, I think the engine looks great. It has that real look instead of model look. Just the right amount of grime and you can see gravity pulling on the plug wires. Great work!
noname Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Thanks Mr.Moto. I'm glad to hear it's coming across well.
