Jason Vandergriff Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) I truly started this car in 05' I did the mini tub out back and the boxxed everything up and forgot about it. Once I got moved back in where Im at now one of the things I did was condense some of my multiple kits of the same thing. I found my start on this and set it aside. I filled in the massive gaps on the sub frame including those by the motor mounts. MOtor will be a fuel injected sbc of some sort. I've got a TPI unit begging for a project to be used on. Id originally planned on a set of wagon rod tires and wheels but Im not sure if I have another set or not. Dad got the set for this car. Let me know what ya think. vizio93 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Nice job so far Jason, I like the body kit, it looks really good
AMT Pacemakers Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Thinking it looks good. What color you got planned for it? CCSS
Jason Vandergriff Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Im thinking red and silver. Not finalized on it yet. Ive been experimenting with some new paints on some spare nascar bodies and have some stuff im wanting to use just got to get the technique down. Did i mention This will be at Birmingham show?
Jason Vandergriff Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) Got the subframe painted and started detailing it. Scratchbuilt shocks and springs. Frame is done in a duplicolor dark shadow grey. Springs where fabbed out of 22 guage wire and a bolt the correct size. Shocks was built from 3/32 plastic tubing and a piece of brass rod that fit snug. Added some plastic to the front end now to just finish the sides of the front spoiler and body work. Wheels are from the Revell motorworks 37 Ford sedan. Tires are good year blue streaks out back and zr-40s up front. Paint is going to be a cherry red with silver stripes. Heres some pics let me know what ya think. Edited January 9, 2010 by Jason Vandergriff
Modlbldr Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Jason- That is a fine looking job you are doing. You've got a lot of work into this one and it shows. Just the right look. I've been working on and off on this kit myself but in a totally different direction. It is a nice kit to work with, in my opinion. Keep the photos coming. Later-

I've been working on and off on this kit myself but in a totally different direction. It is a nice kit to work with, in my opinion. Keep the photos coming. Later- Thanks. This kit is a real good kit to build easy to detail without lots of cutting and replacing. Im starting on all the tierods and stuff now that should be a real fun task. Im wanting it to all be movable cause I want poseable front wheels we'll see if it happens or not. The work factor is slow but what I do looks real good from the start. Im still tempted to cut up the spare floor pan I have here just to get the rear of the left tub right cause I messed this one up a touch never see it on a mirror and in paint but IO dont like a small flaw like that on a contest model.
RacinRay88 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 awesome camaro, i knew i should have picked up that kit when i saw it... i plan on doing a 70 1/2 camaro. any color scheme planned? -Ray
Jason Vandergriff Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) awesome camaro, i knew i should have picked up that kit when i saw it... i plan on doing a 70 1/2 camaro. any color scheme planned? -Ray Ray I'm not sure on the colors yet. Ive got a real nice silver here thats gonna be the base color for anything else that goes over it. I have sprayed the floor pan in Dupli-Color Cherry Red Metallic. I love the color and might do silver hockey stripes down the sides. 29 days left to finish so work load will be going up. **UPDATE TIME** I opened the doors and started trimming interior panels. Havent figured out the tie rods yet done a few different ones and it still dont look right. Guess I need to ask George 53 how he did his cause those looked awesome. The hinges looks like they are going to be really interesting to build cause I want them to look like a factory hinge. I'll be thinning the edges of the panels to a more scale apperance. RacinRay88 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 outstanding!!! i love the way you did your rear spoiler, im glad to see im not alone in the way we had to make our own to make up for that "stub" they call a spoiler. i love the way you did your side skirts and front chin spoiler also great work!! i'll be keeping an eye on this one! P.S. you have the AMT 70 1/2 camaro correct? i test fitted my chassis in the body after i glued the rear filler panel and front panel and the only problem i had was getting the radiator and support back out of the body, it kept snagging on the front filler piece.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I like it. I'll be watching this build.

Mine is gonna be alright cause Ill install the front subframe after the floor pan is in just to be safe. I started with the baldwin motion version of the kit which had the d-80 rear spoiler. The front spoiler is a cut up kit piece and had some added to it. I picked up some wheels and rotors in Atlanta. I got calipers from Replicas and minitures of maryland from a buddy of mine. Got the irs unit out of the zr1 vette and with a few cuts itll fit. New pics tommorrow afternoon.
75th Ranger Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Any updates man cause it looks good man.
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 well I started building the hinges and set my new wheels under it. I also added some color to gather a few ideas for painting it. I have a killer paint effect i used on my Rock Band guitar that turned out nice so Ill be using it here.
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Yeah but no pics i got the subframe redone and back in primer. Removed the lower control arms and moldded the missing piece of the cross member in. still figuring out the door hinge might experiment on it tomorrow and do a full pic update including some of an ill fitting resin hood.

Is it the hood I showed you?
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Its a Bandit resins hood. Its way to flat and no where near close on either end. the other hood for a 66 nova fit good though.
crazyjim Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I don't believe I've seen a set of wheels like that before, Jason. Where they from?
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 They are Machined Aluminum Specialties. I also got the matching rotors to go with it. I finally decided on the hinge and maybe ill get my doors hinged. Front control arms are being decided on.
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 Update time. Front subframe is about ready for paint. Need to build control arms before i paint it. Fiw pictures of my trunk hinge included. Have decided on my door hinge but Ill do an update on them once i get them completed.
Jason Vandergriff Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Looking at a few different ones. Might do an ls1 based motor. Also have a tpi intake from rd uniqie that looks at home under the hood.
