RatRod Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) This was a "must build" as soon as I opened the box. It's great to see this one make a comeback, but it really needed a little extra help to become right. Minor detailing, a JoHan bug catcher from the parts box, New rear wheels, and slicks that are period correct to replace the ones in the kit. I also scratched up some new spindles for the kit axle so the steering can be posed. Here's a peek..... Edited January 9, 2010 by RatRod
Peter Lombardo Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 beauty....very nice, I can see why it was a "must build" Sometimes a kit just speaks to you and I see why you jumped on this. Great looking old digger.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Nice clean work, and very tasteful detailing........ Great job!!
Alyn Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Really nice build. Those front wire wheels sure look nice. Did they come with the kit?
vizio93 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Nice job John !!! It looks like it was a fun build
Dragline Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I am so building one of these!!!!!!! Yours looks so great dude..... Thank You for sharing..... Bob
bsoder Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 those were such great looking cars!..beautiful job
RatRod Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Thanks guys, I'm glad you all like it!! The paint used was HOK tangelo pearl topped off with two coats of Dupont 2 part urethane. Those front wheels are modified Herb Deeks white metal & photo-etched dragster wheels, and are no longer available.
Pro Tech Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Great looking build! I have this on my future list of builds also. Just wondering what rear wheel/slicks did you use to replace the kit ones with. Thanks, Charlie Pro Tech
Randy Kern Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Wow, that is beautiful! This was definitely one of the nicer looking diggers of the era. Those rear wheels & slicks look like the ones in the Bantam Blast kit, which are very nicely done. A sanitary rail!
RatRod Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Those rear slicks are from an original late 60's Monogram showrod, and have the raised line in the sidewall. The wheels I used were a one time only MPC wheel that were in the 1978 issue '28 RPU. It's a shame too, because these were the best detailed Halibrands MPC ever did. Here's the kit....
