pettyfan43 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 I totally forgot to introduce myself. I'm Chris Louden and I do know several of you, either personally or from other boards. I am on the Hobby HEaven board pretty frequently. I had made a post about the new Revell magnum and Bill Geary sent me an email with the pics of his and when I got mine painted the first time, he suggested I let everybody know that I was having the crazing problem with the kit. So sorry to just jump in like that. Good to meet you all. Chris

MrObsessive Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Chris, I'm glad you made some noise about it---------I see on the other board that Revell HAS finally taken notice and hopefully will do something about it. This was NOT a problem with their kits that were made before '04 or thereabouts. I've even heard that the reissue 1/12 '69 Camaro was having the crazing problem! YIKES!!
Zoom Zoom Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Welcome Chris! Even though I didn't have any trouble w/crazing on Revell's new kits, I just do a "standard" coat of BIN over the lacquer primer (Tamiya) and haven't had any problems using Cobra Colors paint. Thanks for the warning, and I'm also glad Revell is trying to rectify the problem. I guess I'm lucky that the paints I normally use didn't cause me problems...I tend to use hobby paints for chassis/motor/interiors, and the bodies usually have a good coat of primer before any auto paint. Using only Tamiya sprays for my Corvette Z06 (Mica Silver/clear) resulted in a perfect finish w/o any crazing; in fact I didn't even use micromesh, I went straight to Tamiya fine and finish polishes and it's smooth as glass 8)
paulcolt Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 welcome i think i must be the luckiest modeller around,i have NEVER had a crazing problem with my Revell kits? I usr H.O.K. Tamiya, and automotive laquers. The only primer i use is either Tamiya or plasticote.
pettyfan43 Posted December 22, 2006 Author Posted December 22, 2006 The Plastikote does a pretty good job of keeping the plastic in good shape. I had a real problem with the Magnum, specifically on the right door, looked like somebody threw a 1/25 scale baseball into the door! The reat of the car was perfect. BTW I have that one almost done, the repaint came out without the bad spot and the car looks pretty good. The good news? This kit is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It truly is a really well engineered kit. EVERYTHING fits together very well and the car actually sits much better than the one on the box. Nothing on the car made for night mares. There is even a set of Chrome METAL exhaust tips. I reccomend the car wholeheartedly! It really is a gorgeous kit.
