This will be the Green Gold 72 Ford from the movie that was used in the early scenes, not the one wrecked at the end. This is the best photo that I have so far.

Galaxie500-vi.jpg

I originally thought that it was a Custom or Custom 500 but now that I look at the few photos I have I now think it's a Galaxie 500 Sedan. I going to watch the movie again and capture some stills to be sure. This means I'll be adding some trim to the rockers and around the wheel openings. I guess I'm not ready for paint yet ...

I didn't paint the dash yet as I need to add some pedals and column levers. The interior trim is correct for a base Custom but not the Galaxie 500. I'm going to leave it as is though and just detail it to match best I can. Stay tuned for more this weekend ....

I just watched Magnum Force tonight. Most of the movie they had '72 full size Fords. I have the same kit as you and I LOVE it. I have not figured out what I want to do with it. Could build it as a Lois Lane Superman (1978) film car or a rental car.....

It's been a while since I updated this so I'll bring it up to date. I captured some more photos from Magnum Force DVD. This is probably the best overall shot and it shows the side trim well.

I'm glad I held off painting it until I double checked. I went ahead and added the rocker and wheel trim with some evergreen strip. I had to feather back the primer coats as I didn't want to chance the trim not sticking.

I finally got some color on the body to the point were I'm happy with it. After the first couple of coats there was too much dirt in it to be acceptable so I put it aside to let it dry overnight. I then sanded it out with a 3200 polishing cloth wet, re-masked it and I shot a couple of more color coats on it. It's not perfect but it's much better now. The one thing about using Automotive laqcuer is it's forgiving enough to let you fix your painting sins. I see my "high tech" paint stand is looking pretty rough. I guess I'll have to dig up another piece of scrap wood and sacrifice another cloths hanger for the cause.

Picture162-vi.jpg

I took almost two weeks but I finally managed to get the foil trim work done and clear coats applied. Boy they had some bright colors in the 70's. I think this may qualify the for the worlds ugliest unmarked Police Car award. Anyway, I'm going to let the paint gas out for a week or so then I'll denib and polish it up.

I also decided to add some seatbelt detail to the interior. The buckles are Model Car Garage and the belts are painted masking tape. Besides adding some interest they do a good job of hiding where the seat castings were a little rough. I see there's still some grinding dust to clean up from where I opened up the locating holes.

I'm glad I held off on painting the dash because I needed to clearance it for windshield to fit. That going to be my next project along with painting and detailing the wheels.

More to come .....

I agree on the color combo, ocean blue with apple met. green......who ever thought of that, must be a very unique person. :D

My guess is either it was a factory freak that Ford was happy to donate to the studio for consideration or they decided to repaint one in bright color for film visibility. Whichever it was I still wanted to try and match it.

The paint I used was custom mixed in PPG lacquer to Ford's code 4B Bright Green Gold Metallic which looked like a match to the Movie Car. It's probably available from MCW or from other sources who do factory match colors.

I was just looking at this again and then I remembered that my dad, who was a big Ford fan in the '70s had a 1972 Ford LTD in the same color, but for the life of me I can't remember what color the interior was :(

I'm going to ask my older brother if he knows because he seems to remember ever car our dad owned!

All I do know is it was that color and had a white vinly roof.

This is probably the last mockup before the final detail and assembly. The bumpers and grille are still loose as they're not detailed yet. I'm going to add a outside mirror, hubcaps, correct plates and at least one antenna.

The Motorola style radio is from the Hobby Heaven issue of the AMT 70 Ford Police car and the Mic is a leftover from a Charger test shot.

Feel free to comment or make suggestions. There's more photos at the link below. Thanks for looking !!

That's coming out very nicely.

Over the years, I've seen some very odd color combos come out. Among my favorite "insta-puke" blends are silver with a tan interior and blue with red, which never looked right to me. Beige or brown with a gray interior looks pretty sickly to me, too.

Steve I just remembered you were doing this car, I'm doing Harry's first ride from Dirty Harry, the Dark blue '68 Ford, I'm using a Hobby Heaven ford kit, sadly it's the closest.
