I started this kit when it was brand new and I was living in the barracks at NAS Norfolk (which meant severe limitations on what I could have/do). The body was shot outside in January! I need to finish it (Joe Miles and Jerry Quick will remember me bringing this one to the TAMS meeting held in the Pontiac dealers service bay!).

I have more, but they pretty much already state the above shots. All I could do was detail paint, no superdetailing; so I tried my best with just paintbrushes and a spray can or two. Hope you like it (it is persoanally one of my favorites and I REALLY need to finish it right!).

Thanks! Color is Testors Burgandy Metallic shot over Black primer.....I still need to polish it out, apply the BMF and decals, and have some '528 Hemi' decals made for the hood in the style of the original '340 wedge' decals.

Man, that thing looks sweet!!

That is an awesome color combo!

I LOVE the way those dusters look slammed to the ground and tubbed. One of my old teachers when I went away to school in Illinois was building a 1:1 just like that. I never got to see it finished so this helps me picture how it turned out. Thanks!

Is that the revell olds pro-stock chassis? I may have to build one of these myself some day. I know I have the body floating around somewhere...

Yes, that is the Revell warren Johnson Pro Stock chassis.

As to the springs next to the tranny; being that this is a pro Stock chassis, my guess is that they were used to tune the 'lift' and/or 'rebound' characteristics of the rear axle in windup during launch. It appears that they are on the anchor end of the lower control arms (something like a torque arm set-up).

The engine is a T/F Funny Car motor with the Olds intake and front motor plate adapted to fit, the rest is from the Olds kit.

Closest I have to a full side-on shot of this car.

Looks good, but I have a really stupid question, what's the coil springs on either side of the transmission for?

Whale pretty much described it right - lift or jounce and axle wrap dynamics.

The geometry of the suspension arm is also to help with the 'snap' effect of the slicks - how they wind-up and launch.

Watch a well tuned Pro-Stock car launch. They don't squat - they raise. Physics and geometry in racing is fascinating until you get to the math - ick. B)

Bradley - That is one very nice model for a military dorm! I'm gonna have to stop making excuses for living in too-small of a house with no work bench!

IMCA open wheel dirt cars use the single lift bar with adjustable coil springs and shocks at the tranny too. They stand somewhat verticle and the angle is adjustable along with other factors. They need it since they run on 8" tires and wheels. When they stand on it out of a corner the rear lifts up really high and to the point that it starts to pick the front up too. Not off the ground mind you, but up off the springs putting max weight transfer to the rear wheels. It's a heck of a set up.

Thanks for the clarification on the chassis design....I was thinking it worked that way (I try to set my daily drivers up for good cornering/rear control during launches as I drive HARD). My 91 Mustang GT has a Watts Link, Tri-Link, Steeda weight adjustable lower control arms, and some Tokico Illumina shocks going into the rear this winter (along with some Eibach springs). Front is a Maximum Motorsports Tube K-Member, AJE tube control arms, Steeda C/C plates, and 96GT spindles with Cobra brakes, along with the aforementioned Tokicos.

But anyway, I will post more on this build when I get a chance to snap some more pics.

You engineered the quirky Mustang suspension geometry quite well. I'd kind of like to see that, too! Do you Autocross or do track events?
