PatRedmond Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The Ohio Turnpike is strictly radar enforced. Now I know who NOT to hook up with for a ride to NNL East!
LVZ2881 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) I worked timing and scoring for several Silver State Classic races. I was headed to my location about halfway to set up my timing equipment about 6am in my modded 1997 Z28 with the T56 six speed. Now, at this time the Nevada Highway Patrol has already closed the roads and they are empty. I went 160 mph on the speedo, 145 GPS verified for atleast 25 miles. The best part was driving past 3 different sheriff's cars that were parked where the lifeflight helicopter was based, and they just waved. Edited February 9, 2010 by LVZ2881
modelhut Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 138 mph in a 1993 Infiniti I30, 5 speed. The fuel shut-off kicked-in. 115 on my Harley Road King, not fun, and 95 in my Dodge Cummins diesel, rock solid.
Len Geisler Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Well, lets see now... 105 in my 2002 Impala, speed limited 200 KPH (about 125 MPH) in a Peugot Wagon on the Autobahn in 2008 148 MPH as a passenger in an old friends Callaway Almost forgot, about 185 in a cup car during a ride along at Pocono Edited February 9, 2010 by Len Geisler

Ryan S. Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I drove a '94 Honda Civic Hatchback CX with the puny 1.5 litre engine back in high school and college. Some time in 98-99 I took a solo trip to visit family in southern california. On my way back home to nor cal, south of King City on HWY 101 I decided to see how fast she'd go. With the stereo cranked all the way up I put the peddle to the floor. It topped out around 95-100 due to a fuel regulator or some governing from the computer but I kept on it and was able to get just about to 110 on the speedo before I decided to back off of it. Shortly thereafter I noticed the 'ol blue and red's spinning in my rearview mirror and got a nice fat ticket from the CHP. He clocked me at 96mph but wrote me up for 85, which was cool. The $400+ ticket was not so cool. I had a Mercedes C230 as a rental about a year and a half ago which I got up to 105 or so, accidentially. That car was so smooth and just wanted to GO that I didn't even notice I was going that fast. I was on a highway and DIDN"T want a ticket so I didn't push it.
Dragline Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 120 in the quarter with my Pro Street 73 Vega. Got it on the highway and buried the 140 speedo. Not sure how fast, but it was fast enough. Bob
Draggon Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I got to a huge 98 in my 71 Bug many years ago. Kinda like pushing a brick thru a garden hose. It had a spoiler on the front, and a little wing thingy called a "herrod's helper" on the back. It was real scary from about 75 to 85. From 85 on up the spoilers really began to work and the faster I went the more stable it felt. It was sucked down so much that the front suspension hit the snubbers. I did about 115 in a 79 ElCamino with a 350 4bl. The stock suspension made that not much fun at all. I also had a 5.0 mustang that did a very easy 90mph most of the way down I5 to Los Angeles and got 26mpg while at it.
Tommy Kortman Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) Man... I don't know if I should be typing or casting here. Sounds like some fish stories around here. It's OK though I brought the hip waders. For myself. Back when I was young, dumb, and full of...well you get the point. I went over 120mph (that's as far as the speedo would go in my moms 77 Malibu)I say over because the needle disappeared. I was cannonballing to the Jersey Shore (LBI) in February against one of my dorm-mates from college. When I shut the lights off at 110 going down Rt 72 in the pine barrens, my room mate jumped from the front seat to the back. I asked him why; to wit he responded, "Because if we die, you go first... expletive deleted." I have averaged 127mph on the 5/8 mile square-oval that used to be Flemington Speedway. (After they paved it) I swear that place got faster after it was paved. (Man I miss that place) It was also the place where I caught the end of the pit wall after the left front spindle broke at 125mph. To this day I don't remember much of that wreck.
