Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hey, y'all. Is'nt this just the baddest looking, beat up old Mopar y'all have ever seen? I've hade this project on the back burner for some time now. I'm trying to decide whether I should build it as a static model, or try and modify it to fit my XMODS r/c chassis. The kit I'm using is the original MPC Super Charger. I'm also looking for someone to modify the grill to match the car pictured.
Rob Hall Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I remember that movie. Watched it one night about 10 years ago when I had insomnia and couldn't sleep.
Railfreak78 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 WOW I thought I was the only one that remembered this great movie! I bet you will get all kinds of it was this car or that car. People think it's a Super Bee based on the look of the front. It's a 71-74 Charger. Don't forget like a lot of people that those versions of Charger had super bee packages. I wish I thought of this before you lol . I have the right Charger. Have fun with this one!
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks, Brian. The car is actually a 1974 Dodge Charger. I just don't know how I'm gonna be able to modify the grill and hood.
Railfreak78 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'd see if a 70 Superbee grill would fit or not in the location of the charger. I have both let me check in the morning. Then I'd snip the plastic (the side of the headlights closest to center) Get rid of the the bulk mold and add some styrene strips to make that angle. Let me see if I can make a mock.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks, Brian. What about the louvers on the hood? One thing I never got about this movie. Did that car have a driver?
dwc43 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks, Brian. What about the louvers on the hood? One thing I never got about this movie. Did that car have a driver? Yes, it did. Cause he reached out the window and grabbed the bus drivers little girl and pulled her inside the car. You never did see his face, just his arms. Remember the tv show 240-Robert? The bus driver in this movie was the CHP chopper pilot in 240-Robert.
dwc43 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 By the way, if you just want to watch it, it's on You tube. It's broken down into episodes, so you just have to keep up with which one you are watching so you can go to the next one when it's done.
Wes82 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Great movie! Check this out.. http://www.spencer1984.com/my_models/wheels-of-terror-charger.php
diymirage Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks, Brian. What about the louvers on the hood? One thing I never got about this movie. Did that car have a driver? i have seen people use stairs intended for the smaller scale of model trains (G or H or something, not sure how they operate) you just cut the apropriate size hole in the hood and lay the stairs in flat it looks very good when done properly
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks, guys. Luckily, I have the right year of Charger, so I don't need to do all that work. I actually have an original VHS copy of the movie.
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Hey sorry my response was a little late. Here is my idea. Take some styrene or plastic thats flexible like this but a bit thinner. Cut the grill section around where I blacked it with a sharpie and then make your new piece. It would take some work but I think it can be done. The trick is going to be the hood. I think I would try to heat it with a torch lighter from farther away under it to get the bend. You would have to use styrene to add to the fenders to make up for the gap the hood will take away. I really don't know what I'm talking about and I have limited tools but if I built this it's more than likely what I'd do. Be careful with the heat if you do it as there is a fine line between cool looking and words I cant say on here
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Thanks, Brian. Can you build the new griil for me? I don't have a spare '71 Charger griil, and I don't want to risk cutting up the original '74 Charger grill.
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I'll tell you what bud. I'll make the grill and even the hood and if you like it we can trade? I only have one kit and I am rebuilding it. If your happy with it maybe I can get your stock stuff. If not keep em both as I may need parts in the future whatcha think? Here is a pic of the one that was good but I was not happy so I tore it down..
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The grill and hood. As I wont have one for mine when I ship them to you lol.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Sure. You do know that my Charger is a '74, right? Thanks, bud.
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Crud I don't know if they are going to fit. I'll just make this one I guess and hope it fits yours Maybe post a pic of yours so I can see the car? I do not remember what company made this one but it was a green R/T on the box. I want to say Revell but I might be wrong. Or send me yours and I'll do yours. Edited February 8, 2010 by Railfreak78
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 My car is a an MPC '74 Charger. Yours is the AMT '71 Charger. I have other parts if you need them. I've got bodies, engines, wheels/tires, etc. That could also work.
Railfreak78 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I just wanted to be able to make what you need but my stuff won't fit yours lol. I guess its the thought that counts right?
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Yeah. Is there anything else you need?
Joe Handley Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I remember that movie. Watched it one night about 10 years ago when I had insomnia and couldn't sleep. Let me guess, it didn't help that insomnia much either
Nick Winter Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Anymore advice/info, guys? Kevin I'd love to have this in the Movie/TV car build.
