Monty Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I was reading an old Model Cars magazine (April 2001) last night and I found a one page article on this stuff. According to the article you can cast whatever part you need using their materials and the piece will come out with a chrome finish. They cast an old Cadillac grille and it looks at least as good as kit chrome, although the pics are in black and white. The article lists an address in Wisconsin, but no phone #. My Google search didn't turn up anything of value, so if you have any info I'd appreciate it.
RodneyBad Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Being that it was an April Issue of some other Mag. I'll assume it was a April Fools Joke..
cnaind Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Maybe something like this?? I have real metal powders I use in the molds to get these finishes: Molded with silver powder Molded with gunmetal powder Silver rim & gun metal spokes Hope this is helpful.

It is great stuff. I use it quite allot. The wheel in this pic next to the engine, was done with the gold powders.
Smart-Resins Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Very cool Looks like the only place I can find it. I know they tend to be a little high on shipping, so Ill check at misterart.com first. But I know Carol as I used to buy my resin through them. Thanks. I think Ill try the aluminum first. Jody

Not gonna dig through boxes of mags to find where and when I saw it. I'm good knowing I know I saw it and that's good enough for me. Edited February 9, 2010 by Zukiholic
Ben Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I remember that article, it was done as an April Fools gag.
george 53 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Scale Auto Enthusiast's Annual April Fools issue. Back when Gary Schmidt used to own it. He and his crew would come up with crazy gags every April. You guys remember the "Spray Away 2000" spray that would turn your model bodies CLEAR? they used an old clear MPC GTO stock car body to help with the gag. "Just spray it on" and the body turns CLEAR! I used to LOVE it back then! Now I get it just cause it's still being printed. It's lost ALL it's "For Modelers, By Modelers" qualities for me. I miss the old Car Modeler series too. Kalmbach just got rid of that one an butchered up SAE while they were at it.
Gregg Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Yes, sorry, it was my April Fools joke. One of the better ones I did I must say Sorry
Monty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Yes, sorry, it was my April Fools joke. One of the better ones I did I must say Sorry Oh, believe me, in hindsight I think it's hilarious. I just happened to be reading it at 2:30 in the morning (insomnia) and it seemed like such a great idea that I couldn't wait to see if it was still available somewhere. Give yourself a pat on the back for your efforts.
goldfinger Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Does anyone remember the article on "plastidids"? They were bugs that ate the plastic away of MIB models. That was a good one.
