Jurva Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Here is my current project. So far i've scratchbuilt chassis and front suspension. Rearaxle and suspension are from some truck. And so are the wheels and tyres. And here is the a mockup of the project. That's 1:24 Tamiya mechanic wondering how long the hot rod is. Car itself is a mix of 1:25 and 1:24 parts. AMT Allison V12 sitting at the front. And truck gearbox.
LDO Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 That's a cool project. Is that a Heller Mercedes-Benz body?
george 53 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 WoW talk about Dare to Be Different! Looks pretty cool so far! what was the body to begin with? Bet yer the only kid on the block with one of THOSE!!
Jurva Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Yes. It is a Heller Mercedes. It was in bad shape when I got it, with other junk. Two halfs were glued, but needed a lot of sanding and filling. Edited February 13, 2010 by Jurva
RodneyBad Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Looks Perty Cool.. Won't turn worth a darn tho.
Foxer Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 That's looking great. One long frame with nice looking details. and a perfect perch for that Allison!
Modelmartin Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Best use of a Heller 540K I have seen! Those were in bad shape right out of the box!!! Seriously, that is a very cool project and your fabrication looks excellent.
Jon Cole Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 You have some real interesting stuff going on there! Can you explain about the metal joints the suspension is attached with? I would like to build like that. Good stuff... keep going!
Jurva Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 Suspension is held together with "head pins". That how they are labeled. They are 0,8 mm thick, and I found them in jewelry section in hobby shop.
vizio93 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Dang that thang is wicked !!!! I agree with George, I bet you would be the only kid on the block with somethin' like that......well....probably the only one in the country with somethin' like that :)
unclescott58 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 What happened to this project? Any updates since this was posted? Love seeing anything with AMT's Allison engine in it. Uncle Scott
GoatGuy Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I agree. I'd like to see more and I want to drive it when it's done.
crazyrichard Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 whouw thats stunning !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and cool !! one thing i wondered if you would make the front chassis a tad shorter so like the engine is just in front of the cab and then the grille before that .. maybe proportion wise it would be perfect then .. just a thought .. loving this
Vampira Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I may be mistaken but I believe Jay Leno built a real street rod similar to this..
blazefox Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I may be mistaken but I believe Jay Leno built a real street rod similar to this.. jays car was actually built by blastolene garage. and that one uses a twin turbo v16 orv12 patton tank engine. i believe
