I just read that there was a massive 8.8 quake in Chile, that is far more severe in magnatude than Haiti experienced. Also, Tsunami warning issued for all islands of Hawaii. Hope it is a false alarm for the islands.

We are on Tsunami Warning as of 6:00 a.m.

The quake was huge in Chili, Hilo will get first wave around 11:00 a.m. our time

Expecting at least 8 foot waves, from initial buoy readings/reports

I am in safe area

Dad is on 16th floor, he's okay

Kelly and her mom and dad are deeper in the valley, they are fine

Fun times!

Thanks for concerns

Chile.

Mario Lucchini is in Chile, hope he is ok. I think he's in Santiago, supposedly the city got hit pretty hard.

MS/NBC is reporting that offshore bouys are detecting a tsunami wave. Only 2 feet high out in the open ocean, but as the wave closes inland, the height rises as the ocean floor slopes upward to meet the coastline. This also is not an event exclusive to Hawaii, but affects the entire Pacific basin. Hawaii could be in jepordy around 4:00 PM EST.

Watching FoxNews right now, tsunami is expected to hit Hawaii in about 15 minutes or so--hope people near the shoreline are heeding the warning!

Just checked on a website for a 16yr old California girl who is attempting a solo non-stop circumnavigation of the World, and is about 1500 miles off the coast of northern Chile. Her team onshore says that she is OK, likely not even experiencing a noticeable swell in the deep South Pacific Ocean.

But, I am thinking about the people in Chile, prayers going up for their safety in all this.

Wasn't a big event (Thank God) but enough to show that the new monitoring system does work!
