Guest Sickfish Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 (edited) Ok guys it's been a few weeks since i finished my last 2 builds & during this time i've been having a hard time deciding what mt next build should be(e) . I really want to build a nice clean stock 70 Superbee & i can't decide which of the following i should replicate??? I really love both of them, especially because i have both colours & enough equipment etc to do either 1...but only 1 kit... The Bronze Bee is a Hemi & the white Bee is a 383. I found pics of the white Bee on the net & don't have very much info on it other than it is a 383 4spd car?? I'd love to know, from anyone who has any info on this particular Bee, if in fact it is a factory optioned car, red roof & red C-stripe??? The only problem i've got with building the white Bee is obtaining the red c-stripes & a good 383, even though they're nearly identical to a 440. Also i'm going to use Rallye wheels for the 1 i choose to build, because i've scratch built a set, larger in diameter, ( approx' 18in 1/24 scale ), with better rubber. So without further ado here's the 2 options.... Hemi Bronze Superbee.... White 383 4spd Superbee... So guys....let me know which 1 i should have a crack at! Cheer's Cliffo! Oops....sorry guys...i meant to post this in the workbench section...now i cant move it!! Edited March 8, 2010 by Sickfish

Oops....sorry guys...i meant to post this in the workbench section...now i cant move it!! You could have ordered it with a 383. That white one looks like it has a chrome strip on the bottom of the B pillar. I'm betting it was a vinyl top car and they painted it red. The white car looks good with the Road wheels, but the Hemi car is hard to be with the Ralley wheels and stock polys. I'd do the Hemi car. With dual carbs it has a lot more you can detail on the engine.
diymirage Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 this is a tough one, they are both gorgues cars on the one hand i love the bronze on the hemi AND its a hemi on the other hand, the red and white combo is rather unique and so is the 383 im gonna love whichever one you build (also, if you go to edit post you can ad an actual poll)
whale392 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Base model engine for the 'Bee was the 383, followed by the 440, 440+6 and Hemi (in that order). Personally, if you already have a set of Ralleys (also an extra-cost option) handy and the kit comes with the Hemi, it would be a no-brainer to build the BronzeBee. However, there is something to be said for the uniqueness of the WhiteBees color combo. Source a 383 from the Revell 69 Dart GTS kit and you will be set (plus, you could drop the Hemi or the 440+6 into the Dart!). Your call Cliff, but either way you go I am sure it will look killer (based on your 'Cuda and GTX builds).
Guest Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 If you want a strctly stock, what was offered from the fqactory, the whit/red is out, I dont think they were offered that way, but either way you do it, those cares are beautiful! Have fun!
george 53 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The Bronze Bee. I NEVER saw a RED vynil roof on ANY Bee, so if it IS factory it's SUPER rare.
Railfreak78 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I have a Red R/T stripe for this white one but not the kind of stripe pictured. it is from the 70 Bee kit. You can have it if you want it.
Jon Cole Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Both look good... but the red over white really grabs the eyeballs! The red vinyl top is so unusual, just can't help but noticing it.
cruz Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The white one looks good, you just have to make sure to get that exact shade of red for the roof though, anything else might just ruin the overall effect...
diymirage Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 one thing to consider is that MSUfan has a model on the bench that is pretty much ver batum the bronze one
Guest Sickfish Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks guys for all your input!! I actually dug out 1 of my reference books on the charger, roadrunner & superbee by Paul A Herd & Mike Mueller. According to their info NO 70 superbee came optioned or built with red c-stripes or a red roof! They could only be had with black or white bumblebee/ c-stripes. So with this in mind I'm obviously gonna go with the Bronze Bee! It doesn't bother me that lusfan or any other modeller is building the same car in the same colour. At some point, all the time, this is a regular occurence. If it's a Mopar getting built, I'm quite happy for these occurrences to repeat themselves over & over all the time!! ;-) Anyway... Time to start project Hemi 'Bee!! Cheers guys, Cliffo!
ScrappyJ Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I like both of them too, but the white one just grabs my attention. By the way, nice pun in your intro post
Guest Sickfish Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Geeeez guys you're supposed to HELP me decide which 'Bee to build!! With all your darn self -opinionated, build the white 1, no, build the Bronze 1, hemi, hemi, hemi..... you've gone & left me no choice!! I'm gonna have to build both of them!! I've just purchased a couple of kits off ebay, for $13ea!! Sweet deal, compared to the prices they're asking down here for kits these days...$40au each!! Love ebay!! 2 kits for a total of $50au shipped!! Anyway...i've already started work on general clean-up & prep work for the Stock Hemi 'Bee. Colour will be T-6/T-7 Dark Bronze. I have a favour to ask you guys, although i have quite alot of detailed interior/exterior & engine pics for reference, what i don't have enough of, or rather, am in need of, are good quality under-chassis pics, close-ups of brake/fuel/cable lines etc. If any of you guys have some or know where i can download some from i would be exteremly greatful! I really want to get the detailing spot-on on these 'Bees & the more references i have to check with, all the better?! Cheer's & thankyou all for your votes!! Whole lotta help they were!! Cliffo! ( Dirk, i'm full of puns, but most people that know me reckon i'm more full of s**t, than anything else!! Lol! )
camaroman Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Build them both and send me the white one... That thing may not be stock but it shoulda been... really eye catching....
whale392 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Cliff.............allpar.com <search there. Be ready to be overwhelmed by all things Mopar.
Guest Sickfish Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Cheers Brad....i knew you'd come through for me mate!! Glenn, i agree mate, it should've been a stcok option!! Oh yeh, if i screw the build up & i gotta re-start a new one....the old one's your's !! Lol!! Cheers Cliffo!
gray07 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I like the white one with the 383, everybody has a hemi, i like different
Guest Sickfish Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Brad.....dude.... that allpar site is freekin' useless!! Spent nearly 2hrs on there last night trying to locate pics of Superbees etc & nada, zip, zero, zilch, didley squat!! That site is frustrating, it's all over the darn place!! Lol!! Look's like i'll have to dig out my massive Mopar book/mag collection & see if i can locate something in there!? Gray, me too mate, pretty sure i'll stick the 383 in the white phantom, as i do happen to have a nice 383 from the 69 Dart. Cheers guys, Cliffo!
dwc43 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 (edited) Allpar is pretty useless at times. And most of the info is just put on there by everyday people so it's not very accurate at times either. Maybe this will help you out some. I did not go through all of this, but it seems to be a good read. http://dodgerestoration.com/category/dodge-super-bee/ Slide show restoration might help a little. The engine block is the wrong color. Too dark. It should be the same color as the Hemi orange air cleaner. No way I'd give 30g for a car with a non original engine in it. The rest of the restoration seems to be pretty accurate though. There's an undershot of the car, but it's not a whole lot of help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZLfQ7PREV8 Edited March 6, 2010 by dwc43
nails3825 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I've searched high and low looking for a (good) website for reference on these cars, just for you! That's just how I am... but I gave up after several hours of nothing. I did stumble across this awesome ford mustang site though... just in case you need it one of these days http://mustangattitude.com/default.shtml I like the red and white one, by the way... if that's an original color option combo, I say go for that one.
Guest Sickfish Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Thanks a bunch dwc43 & James!! Both really generous of you to go to the trouble of helping me out James, unfortunately for Ford i'm a Mopar guy through & through. Although i appreciate Mustangs etc i don't see myself building one, unless i'm paid to, in the near or far off future. They just don't excite me like Ma Mopar's products do, if ya catch my (Hemi ) drift? ! Thanks though, really appreciate the effort you went to for me! Cheers, Cliffo!

If you have any questions about the car I'll be glad to help if I can. IT uses the std. B body chassis, so very little is different between say a '68 to '70 B body. When it comes to the chassis every piece will swap between those cars. I do build models of other cars, but I am Mopar through and through. Only cars I have ever owned or raced for that matter. All my family owned while growing up and I even had an uncle that owned a dealership and his son drove a Hemi pulling truck if you know what that is.
Eshaver Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Cliff, go to Auto Color Library first ! http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/ Now as to how I would build a 1970 Coronet , easy first it would be a " Mainstreamer " ie, no Hemi , 383 or a 318 No vynil top they caused rust here .......... george 53 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Cliff, WAAAAY back inna day, there was a 70 Super B just like your Bronze one that ran around here. The guy who owned it had the FRONT AND REAR bumpers plated in 24K GOLD! Yeah I know it sounds tacky, but really it looked pretty good! It WAS unusual to see GOLD bumpers onna car but it sure DIDN'T look bad! he was my wife's girlfreinds husband, so I knew him pretty well. I asked why, he said Why not??? His wife was NOT amused at the cost!!!
