cruz Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 I know that this is not a very popular car among the Muscle car fanatics of the U.S. but we love them in Puerto Rico and it is like a tribute to my past when I use to see them in the streets of the Island and specially when they hook them up for racing and the likes. You Boricuas can vouch for me
Nick F40 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I already like it! It kind of reminds me of a Datsun 510. 8) I guess it's like Australian cars and how they go after the same design, just different name!
Wildrice Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Those things are wicked on the 1/4 mile. The rotary engines with turbos make them a wild ride. Great start. Can't wait to see it finished.
cruz Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 That an old school Toyota Corolla? Yes, if I am not wrong I think is a 74 or so.
Matt T. Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I like it! Neat wheels too. Keep posting updates, please.
MrObsessive Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Hey Bro! Whose kit is that?? I'd love to turn that into a stock Corolla! Bring that to the meeting tomorrow if you're comin'! 8)
Randy Kern Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 That one should look as cool as your other builds. I bought a Celica new in '74 ($4,000), and put spoilers on, mags and lowered it. One of the first pocket rocket/tuners!
MonoPed Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Marcos, What kit is that? While not a fan of modern FWD imports, I do have an interest in the old school RWD cars like the early Celica, Datsun 510, Datsun Z, and 1st gen RX-7. The wheels are what made me think Toyota - they are nearly identical to the wheels on my 1:1 ride in high school, a '76 Celica GT liftback
cruz Posted January 6, 2007 Author Posted January 6, 2007 Fellow plastic lovers, this kit is from Fujimi and it is a recent re-issue available through HLJ. Bill, I will be bringing it to the meeting tomorrow so you can check it out. By the way, if you think the guys loved you in Puerto Rico, just build one of these PR style, they will go head over heals with it man  The rims were a gift from Luis Ayala, a fellow model builder from PR and a very great friend and they were done in resin and Alcladed, very hard to get. I am putting this one together fairly simple and it will be curbside. I have another one that I plan on doing it with a rotary engine down the road........These things are very quick with rotary engines
cruz Posted January 6, 2007 Author Posted January 6, 2007 Another angle so that you can have an idea on the ride height, very important because the height determines how real this model will look when finished......
cruz Posted January 6, 2007 Author Posted January 6, 2007 Side view, just taken out of the food dehydrator after a mild wash, next step is the paint.......Can't wait
ScrappyJ Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Can't wait to see this one come together. I'm from St. Thomas, USVI and can appreciate the rotarys the brother in PR build. When it come to Rotatys, I don't think there are many that can mess with the PR contingent. Hopeully this one will have a rotary, Marcos.
ismaelg Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 UN CANDUNGO!!!! Like many others, I almost killed myself in one: Webbers, headers, slicks and wet pavement *DOH*
cruz Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 UN CANDUNGO!!!! Like many others, I almost killed myself in one: Webbers, headers, slicks and wet pavement *DOH* I know what you mean bro, I know what you mean
cruz Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Hey ScrappyJ, this is one I did utilizing a chassis from another model, this one I am currently doing will just be a curbside but believe me I have already thought about a rotary engine on a future corolla I have......Time will tell
cruz Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 Well guys, here is a liitle bit of progress on my 74' Corolla, just used Tamiya Pure White and didn't even need a clear, this stuff rubs out nicely. I will be masking the front grille and the rear lights cause this model is all a one piece mold. Will have more pictures later........
MrObsessive Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Oooohh....check out that shine! 8) That's one nice thing about Tamiya paints.......they level out very nicely without too much need for rubbing out. Cruz, what kit number is yours?? I tried to find the kit on HLJ Japan, but couldn't find it. I'd like to buy this kit and have some slick ideas for one. Thanks!
cruz Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 I will have to check and tell you later Bill, I know that the one on the box is like a british green.......
Daniel Peterson Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I didn't realize that was your project when I saw it on the table at the CPMCC meeting. It is a really neat, uncommon subject. So it's not a textbook typical muscle car...a cool car is a cool car. This is a cool car! 8)
ScrappyJ Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Hey ScrappyJ, this is one I did utilizing a chassis from another model, this one I am currently doing will just be a curbside but believe me I have already thought about a rotary engine on a future corolla I have......Time will tell  Can't wait to see the rotary version. However, this one is really nice too! Got any more pictures of this one? Great job all the way around!
cruz Posted January 21, 2007 Author Posted January 21, 2007 This is some progress made on the Corolla, some masking had to be done around the front and back light bezels and some foil added.........
