tuffone20 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) I've been wanting to build one of this again and when I got back into building models again one of the 1st kits I got was the Model Kings Racer's wedge & open road camper. And now I've started working on it using '72 Chevy truck kit and this is where I'm at right now with it. I've been looking at photos of Chevy trucks with this camper set up trying to come up with a paint job I'll like? Not much done besides the motor & chassis & wheels. This is a photo of the one I built as a kid and I used it for a school project one time and made this little camp site and yes those are the Sweathogs figures your seeing.. oh and that is a real flame in the campe fire And in this photo I put the camper on a Dodge 4x4 truck. Space Cowboy Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Great looking project. Good choice on the Chevy pickup. I used a 66 Chevy with a 454 to build mine on and yours is going to look great...
Modlbldr Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I like the look of this. Nice tires and wheels. What kit are they from? I think that I would go with a dark non-metallic blue and fridge white. Later-

tuffone20 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Still packed away in the box as I ran into a road block on how I wanted to detail the camper.
Chuck Most Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I'd say just go with basic white and gold- 90% of the old camper rigs you see are done up that way... or what about Krylon Hunter's Camo?

Railfreak78 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Please don't use that yellow though! My dad had that same yellow on his 72 and I plan on making it with another type of camper and I don't want it to look like yours

davyou5 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I am glad you picked a Chevy this time around . I think this will be interesting, and it must bring back allot of memories to you to build the kit again . I can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks, And you got me thinking about my memories of that kit and how I got it as a kid, I went with one of my older brothers friends who was big into model cars to a swap meet in Toledo and it was a great big one from what I can remember!! I had never seen that many models in one place!! I picked up this kit for I think $10!! Good times for sure and I wish I had held on to more of my stuff from that time.

JamesW Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I've got the MK issue of the camper (from cobra98) that is awaiting it's turn on the bench. I'm using a 454 cab on it though.
Eric Macleod Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 That looks fantastic! Well photographed too. I really like the woodgrain work. Can't beat the guy and his dog. Thanks for posting this.
