Rule of thumb is use light colored primer under light color paint, dark for dark, for pearls, I use either siver paint or aluminum metailizer. HTH

Most of my pearls I airbrush so they come as a tri stage paint. base/mid/clear. When it's pearl white it is a white base. Since the light will go through the pearl coat and reflect off the base coat.

Here's a Mercedes I did with Tamiya white and pearl with pearl clear and then clear.

I'm working on a SL63 Mercedes right now. I'm using Scalefinishes tri coat pearl and it looks great.

Here it is without clear:

Good Luck. Also remember you can't or shouldn't sand over the pearl. Do your best to keep it booger free.

I've prepped the body and then used Plast-i-cote white sandable primer until everything was covered. Let it dry and shoot the pearl. Let it dry and shoot the clear.

Under white use the brightest white you can find. The old standby BC26s from HOK...solid white basecoat will work great, I also find Duplacolor linen white works well...if you want a gloss finish.I also have shot linen white and sprayed my pearls in the clear over it ....depends on what look you want.

I used Dupli-Color Pure White as a base with Tamiya Pearl White on top to complete my '59 Impala, tried gray primer first and was not successful at all, placed it in Dawn Power Dissolver and repainted the whole thing.....
