Luis Ayala Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I live in Puerto Rico and since there are just a couple of events through the year, I just keep my builds on the road for 12 months. It doesn't matter if they win or not; after that I just put them in a glass display in my living room. What about you guys?
Steve H. Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 A year on the circuit is what I do also... But I will take older models to new shows that I've never been to before. I mostly attend NNL type events, so it doesn't really matter if they've been in competition before.
Mike Whatshisname Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I never bring a model to the same show twice! Once it has been to all the local shows, it is retired. Kinda hard to do that in P.R. I'd guess. I'd say 1 year.
Ray Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 After it's been to all the shows it can. I'm about to bring some kits that are over 3 years old to a show this month.
Tom Kren Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 give it the year round tour but if it hasnt been to a show thats a new one i will show it there or if its a theme.
Exotics_Builder Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 One year and only to a new show that it's never been to (within limits).
simonr Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 This is the one I agree. After all, I just go to a couple of shows a year, the remaining time is time to build.give it the year round tour but if it hasnt been to a show thats a new one i will show it there or if its a theme.
Modelmartin Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Until people get sick of seeing it? I use discretion when possible. Has it been seen here before? Has it been seen there in the last decade? It is always fun when I can see someone else's great model a few years later. Nothing is permanently retired for me.
Tuffy's Garage Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Thats an interesting question. I like to go about a year and them they get put back on the shelf unless there is a theme or something like that; but I am also guilty of bringing one to every contest hoping that it gets noticed but doesn't but I keep hoping. Over here in my neck of the woods some guys keep bringing the same car and keep winning the class year after year with the same car. These are judged contest to boot, you would think that the people judging would notice this right? They don't and these guys just keep doing it. Maybe this is more of a rant then a answer but it just grinds at me that some guys get all the awards with the same car year after year and don't bring anything new to the tables. Oh well this is suppose to be fun and not about awards. If I want one bad enough I can spend the 5 or 10 dollars and make up my own. Sorry if this offends anyone just my thoughts on how long a model should be competed
Zoom Zoom Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Generally I'll show a model once at a particular show, and always try to have new models for the show next year. I'll bring out an old favorite if I go to a new show, or there's an NNL theme where it fits.
KT EASTMAN Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I kinda agree with the "once per show" idea. Taking a build to the same show year after year does get old...fast unless you take it just to show and not compete. I would say that a year would be about right for competition. I only make one show a year here, and I usually just bring up some builds just for "Display". KT
