Guest Johnny Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 There are some nice representations and pictures of stills there, although some are kind of scary looking! I have one stored in southern IL. that is a few years older than I am and was in operation until my great uncle died in 1977. It was built in 1947 after "Uncle Fuller" (because he was fuller of you know what than anyone else in the county)got out of the Army! It operated in and arond Salem, Centerville, Pilot Knob and Bismark Mo. during those years! He did 2 years for tranportation of untaxed whiskey but they never found his stil which his wife kept going while he was away! His grandson still has three of his cars he ran the shine in! The oldest a 40 Ford and the newest a 65 Dodge Polara bought from a Police auction!(Former Police car)

jedimastergary Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Looks like one great car will be watching to see how it looks when done. I built something close long a with a 57 chevy model got from my uncle after my cousin trashed it used nascar parts for the motor rear, axle, and seat can not remember much about the model just remember it got trashed by someone visiting me once and then the parts got lost.

Guest Johnny Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 That story kinda reminds me of Steve Earl ... lol Never thought of that! Copperhead Road!
59 Impala Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I like the 40 your building. Looks really great. Note on Thunder Road: Mitchum's 50 had three carbs on the engine and the one in Garlit's musium has only one. Not sure this one is from the movie. Maybe one that looks similar. Dan

Dan The plaque with the engine at the museum says it's the Robert Mitchum engine from "Thunder Road." That's all I know.

dwc43 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I believe near the beginning of this clip there is rear view of Jr's Ford he ran shine in.
rustybill1960 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 My parents used to own and run a Motel in Pa A Good Old Boy, he was a trucker from, oh, was it S.C. or Va?!?! He would bring up moonshine in a mason jar for Dad, every once in awhile he'd let me taste some WOW!!!
Cobrawannabe Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 That is SUCH a clean swap. 100% beautifully done.
Guest Johnny Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Johnny, You wouldn't happen to have any photos of that 40 would you? Sorry Tommy but I don't. If I knew where he moved off to I would contact him but no one seems to know where he went or if he is still alive. I haven't talked to him in over 10 years and we had a falling out over posession of the still. He wanted it but it was handed down to me by my grandpa who was given it by his sis-in-law after his brother passed. She wanted it out of the garage which is the last place he ran it. Right in the middle of Bismark Mo.! Edited March 28, 2010 by Johnny

Tommy Kortman Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 good lookin car. just one question how did you do that amazing interior? love the accents would love to know your technique. Paul, Sorry for the delay.(Works been a killer) Thanks for the kind words. For the interior, I used Poly Scale Rail Road colors, did a little detail painting, and the accented with weathering powders. I use Smokey Mountain powders because I just happen to have them, but any artist pastel will work. Since I don't plan on handling the interior once the car is assembled, I did not bother to spray dull coat or any other fixative to the "dust" The whiskey boxes are photo reduced items from my good friend Mike "What's his name" Napoleon, and the tarp is simply tissue paper soaked in matt medium. Then it was painted and dry-brushed with Testors model master enamels. BTW... After staring at the headers for 2/3 days, I decided that I did not like them. So we are starting over with a different style. Something along the lines of a shorty type.
Jon Carr Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 It would be really cool if you could do the mushroom air filter on Mitchum's '49 Caddy engine. I couldn't find any more pictures of it, but if anyone lives near the Don Garlits Museum in Ocala, FL, that's where you can take pictures of it. I might add that there are some kits and diecasts out there of the '49 Cadillac. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://image.hotrod.com/f/9149338%2Bw750%2Bst0/051000_02z%2B1940_ford_tudor_coupe%2Bside_view.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/113_0510_moonshine_runners_cars_history/photo_02.html&usg=__KCdKrzApjk3h7i3O0oWWb0xqEr8=&h=480&w=640&sz=40&hl=en&start=12&sig2=_xCwn6SmyInZFPR9PtakdA&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=CaUrwA5bdaBYnM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmoonshine%2Brunner%2B40%2Bford%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=T9C-S7TJJpLcsgOB4NzlAw
Tommy Kortman Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 OK, Well it's been awhile, but I have made some minor progress on the Coupe. These are the 3rd set of headers that I have built. I think these will be the ones. I should be able to get the exhaust hooked up, and they clear the steering box. I have also done some work to the carbs. I added the fuel lines (incl a scratch built fuel pump) and I am now working on finishing the carb linkage. Sorry, It's a little blurry. Enjoy.
dwc43 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) Looks good. Don't stop now, get r done. Edited August 5, 2010 by dwc43
