Here is one I just finished up recently. It is pretty rare to see a convertible come off my workbench, at least one that doesn't have an uptop as well. The last full-blown convertible I think I did was the Model King 70 Pontiac when it was released!

This is a Jo-Han USA oldies kit I got at a model show somewhere. I don't remember where or when I got it, it's been a while.

A long time ago, or at least it seems like it, in 2006, I started the build, painting the red and BMFing it. But then, it stalled. I still had the engine and interior to do, but it came to a halt as I was missing the windshield. I tried to get a replacement kit windshield for a long time, but couldn't. So I finally broke down and got the vacuuformed replacement from the Modelhaus. I have never liked vac-formed parts and generally every attempt I have made at them has ended in utter failure. So I kind of put this off. I basically didn't touch it from 2007-2009.

Now, I am trying to cut down on the number of in progress builds I have going. It's about 200, although I don't have an accurate count. Maybe a little less as I have been knocking a few out. Anyway, I tried the window, and it worked good! After that, it was not hard to paint the interior and do final assembly. In fact, all told, doing the rest of the stuff after the window only took me about 2 hours. I should have done it sooner, this one could have been done in 2008, when I got the replacement window!

Anyway, here are the pictures. It's only the 6th Jo-Han model, from original, Seville or Okey runs combined, I've ever built, and oddly enough, it's only the 6th Plymouth I've ever built, too!

It actually has an engine! Another rarity for me these days, although the blue and gold was already painted when I got it...

One question: Should there be any color on the wheels? I can't find any good photos.

I am still trying to figure out how I can do the red white and blue logos and not mess it up, too...

Thanks for looking, and enjoy!

My dads first new car! His was red with a white interior and a 361/3spd stick. Nice looking build.

The kit is a hodge-podge of a 62 Fury, as there were running changes in the assembly line that could have the chrome trim in different places and have either 2 or 3 taillights per side. The chrome trim on this car depicts a mid-year build, but the taillight arrangement depicts an early build. If you do a late build, the trim stays the same, but the taillights (from outer to inner) would be red-white-red. Oh, and there really isn't any color to the hubcaps, but I have seen the center 'bullet' and the PLYMOUTH lettering done in body color.

Billy , I'm shocked ! I thought you only did El Caminos. This one really came out real nice and in addition , its not the typical model you see from anyone on this forum. Thank you for sharing it with us . Ed Shaver

Thanks for the comments guys! And thanks for the help with the wheels!

I didn't know they changed mid year...I don't know much about Mopars, to be honest, I know the most about Chevrolets!

I might address the silver area between the wheel dish and the "bullet" or I may just let it sit the way it is...Not going to try to color in the Plymouth wording I don't think!

Ed,actually I don't build that many El Caminos! I have not built one in a few years actually! LOL! I mainly do NASCAR!

Thanks Again!!

Excellent build of one of my favorite cars (an opinion not shared by many I hear). If memory serves, that's actually an early '62 car all the way which makes sense because it's the tooling that JoHan did for their promo when the 62's first came out. The three taillight version was the Sport Fury model that was introduced later in the year. They did add some chrome side trim to the regular Fury models but different than what yours has. I believe the hubcaps were highlighted with black. I'm a little fuzzy on all this but I have some original factory lit at the house that I can consult a little later. I'll try to confirm!

Anyway, it looks great. I plan to do one in the near future and I managed to score the raised convertible top that was in the first JoHan kits from a glue bomb on E-bay.

Mr.Moto: according to dad (who purchased a brand-new 62 Fury in the spring of 62), the later Fury and Sport Fury came with the three tail light arrangement. I'll have to ask him again on the chrome trimming though, as my memory is slightly fuzzy on that. He traded this car in later on his last new car (a 1966 Plymouth BelvedereII Hemi/auto, which he took delivery of in February of 1966 and still owns).

I like it! Was always a Plymouth fan and I did like those when they were released. Was the era when we'd go looking in dealer's back lots for the new models before they hit the showrooms.

You really did it justice! :(

Very nice Plymouth! :o

Now, I am trying to cut down on the number of in progress builds I have going. It's about 200, although I don't have an accurate count.
