Darin Bastedo Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm sure I'm not the only modeler who is getting fed up with Ebay. The fee structure is such that it is barely worth it to sell anything for less than $20. I have literally thousands of old car magazines I have decided to get rid of but have realised that if I sold them for .99 cents each and charged exactly the shipping it cost to ship them that between Paypal fees, Ebay listing fees, and Ebay final value fees I wouldn't make enough to make it worth my time to list, pack, and ship each magazine. So I was reading my latest Model Cars Magazine and saw the ad for emodelcars.com and was reminded of the no fee site. But upon going to the site I realised that there were less than 200 Items for sale there and half of those were resin hoods! It's a vicious circle that because nobody lists, nobody buys, so nobody lists. Lets change this for the next 30 days lets all make a pledge to list at least one item each week for thirty days. During this time we'll promote the site as much as we can through posts on here and in out facebook, myspace or other blogging sites to get as much interest in the site as possible. This should be a thriving entity where else can you go to sell models and model related supplies and literature for free? Lets do some spring cleaning, thin out our collections there are over 5,000 members of this forum. If only half of us listed one item a week that would be 10,000 items available to buy in one month. now imagine if all of us listed 4 items per week that would be 80,000 items. That's starting to sound like ebay numbers! What do we have to lose? if the items don't sell, it didn't cost us a dime to try, but who knows we might make some money and start some real growth at emodelcars, com
PatRedmond Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I'll be listing this week. Made 3 purchases over the past month on EMODELCARS.
Porky Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) I signed up the other day and plan to be listing some items for sale soon. Edited April 11, 2010 by Porky
Darin Bastedo Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 Great idea, Darin! Thanks Harry, I'm alotted three Great Ideas a year, and I chose to use up one of them on this.
LOBBS Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) I just put up about a dozen kits over there and now I'm headed to the garage to finally tackle my buckets o' parts. Edited April 11, 2010 by LOBBS
Railfreak78 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I checked it out and just need to get used to the format. I struggle with that sometimes but anyway, Does this act like Ebay as far as paypal and such or do you have to set up new accounts? I'll have to go look again and check it out again thanks for reminding me!
crispy Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I've been using an promoting the site for the past year. Gregg has just completed some very nice upgrades to the site and it looks great. I've had great success selling there and have lots of repeat buyers. I normally have approximately 20+ auctions running all the time. I try to add one to two new items per week. I say the more the merrier. Chris
RyanSilva Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I love the revamp. I used it a few months ago..but stopped when I was not getting any sales at all, however I'm back, with even more resin items
Howard Cohen Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Excellent idea! Remember to tell all your modelling pals, club members, and anyone else. The more, the merrier!

Aaronw Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I'll make a point of checking it more often. I've bought a few things and it is easy to use, unfortunately I just don't usually find much I want to buy. I did have some luck getting some old modelling magazines which was nice.
Casey Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I say the more the merrier. Chris LMK on the shipping cost for the 1/16 Chevy 4x4, Chris!
crispy Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hey Casey, ya goof! I had to refund your money. Re-read my auction. No big deal, will take care of it all tonight though. Chris
Howard Cohen Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I put a link on 2 of the yahoo groups I frequent and I hope others will add the link to their groups. More people are needed to make the site a success. I listed some custom printed 8.5x11 colour photos I am selling and if they sell, I will add more photos in the future.
Gregg Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks, Darin. I appreciate all the help and support. When I first started eModelCars, I thought it would be my meal ticket to my house on the beach. I know now that's not going to happen. As for the post that got deleted here, those are the rules. Swear, or even attempt to swear, will result in the full delete of the post. Do it again, that I see, and you will be banned. Yes, this is my site, my auction site, and my sandbox. My rules. Sorry to be harsh. I don't charge for any of the sites I put up and pay good money for over the years. The least you can do is show some respect to the basic rules. Sorry for the rant Darin. I pau....
Casey Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I have to say eModelCars.com is a breeze to use, for both buying and selling. I received my first purchased item this week from Chris and listed a few things for sale tonight, mostly resin-cast wheels. I do have one suggestion- a "Parts" section would be very useful as one of the main categories.

All those fees is the reason why I don't list on feebay anymore. I do buy but don't sell there. I have an emodelcars.com account for a few years now, listed some items a few times but never sold anything. I will go through my stash and list a few items soon. I have a suggestion for the emodelcars sellers, it would be a good thing to mention the postage fee to Canada, I have seen some stuff over there that I would be interested in but I don't bid if I don't know the shipping price.

Bruno, Don't hesitate to email the sellers. It's kind of difficult to let everyone know what shipping will be out of the CONUSA. I see that Gregg did update the shipping part and that may help some. I try to let people know what my zip is and what one kit will ship out at, that way they can go to the USPS site, or Canada Post for you, and get a figure on it. Again, though, don't hesitate to email. I try to get back to everyone the same day if I get a question on anything. Chris
Bruno Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Oh ok I see, I thought that it was the same as here. I'm from Canada and if I ship in the US (with Canada Post), it's the same price for everywhere in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.
