meaneyme Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks my friend. I really thought that this kit was correct in every way when it came to the body proportions, at least that's what the "car lines" gurus here are concerned. According to you, what is wrong with the body on this? I am not one of those modelers that would stop a project because of right or wrong body proportions but I will be honest, it's still pretty important up to a certain point to me, it's one of the reasons I would never build the Revell 'Cuda. What do you base your facts on? Thanks again for your reply on this!! Incorrect body lines? I also thought this kit was 100% right! Anyway, superb job Cruz, as usual, you did great on this kit, from the crisp panel lines to the detailed engine bay, you really set the bar high on this one. Tires look to be a lot better than the ones on the kit which are just garbage, you did well in painting the Good Year logos on them. Correct body or not, I am buying at least 2 more of them and keeping all the building info that you shared, thanks for this!
Jeff Sauber Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Two BIG thumbs up!!.............Nice work, Cruz. Very nice!!
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Hey Marcos, I hope you're sitting down, buddy... because I'm about to be "brutally honest" with you... Body inaccuracy aside (if any; I won't comment on that), this is one fantastic looking model! Well done! (See..."brutally honest" isn't always a bad thing!)
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 First, let me say this is subjective...what bothers one doesn't bother all. But the entire body of the Revell Cutlass is choppy, severe angles and edges where the real car has curves. ... But, the JoHan Cutlass has all the contours I'm talking about...I know it's a hardtop, but if they could do it then, they could have done it now from a molding perspective. I, for one, agree 100% with Mark. Marcos, this takes nothing away from your very well-done model, but I agree with Mark that a model car should be accurate. I really don't see why, with today's technology, the model companies can't come up with a model body that's correct and faithful to the original. Please, don't tell me about the "limitations" of the injection molding process. Like Mark points out, if JoHan could do it 40 years ago, why can't it be done today? The answer, of course, is that it can be done... but for some reason it isn't being done. Again, this is not a knock on Marcos' model... just a commentary on the kit makers.
Guest Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I see what you are saying Mark. It's frustrating, with the digital age, that kit makers cant get things right. Sometimes it seems it was better bfore computers, lol.
cruz Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Don't worry about me guys, I really like to hear these opinions and wish I had the same eye for such details as you guys do. Seems to me that you are correct on everything you say, can't argue with facts right? Didn't think it had so many issues. I did enjoy building it and I hope this doesn't keep other people from buying it and enjoying it also. Thanks a lot for the information provided, you really took some time to provide us with valuable information and that's always good, I just hope that the makers of the kit would listen and stop issuing kits with such flaws, believe me, I don't feel bad, I feel good that you guys are replying positively to my work....
Peter Lombardo Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Marcos, I could not care any less about the issues with the kits problems, the workmanship on the build is top notch. Great job...to the "untrained eye", the car looks perfect. Very impressive. I expect to see this tomorrow at the show.

Thanks guys, Peter, we have to meet, I don't think I remember meeting you, then again, I am really bad with names and faces Anyway, took some outside shots today, kinda shows more gloss on the paint that it's not seen in the inside pictures! Fisher61 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 That is a very beautiful and cleanly built Olds Marcos! I hope that I can master the art of paint like you have, until then I guess I'll keep on plugging away at it. Very cool build!
catpack68 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 sweet work marcos.i have to do one after seeing yours.
rustybill1960 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Marcos, "IMMACULATE BUILD!" As any "Gem" cutter who knows there craft, You Sir, have hit every facet of this jewel! To articulate, You took the "stone" you had before you and turned it into a "GEM" Totally Awesome! The technical aspects of the kit should have been dealt with in the general section of the site, it was nice to learn, but, a time and place. (so as not to detract from the over all build) Thank You for sharing! Later Russ

Later Russ Thanks a lot Russell, I was given the option to include the information about the issues of the kit, it was I who decided on that, don't worry, I have enough positive feedback to feel good about the work done on this build. Thanks for your input also, I am glad you liked it!!!

Thanks for your input also, I am glad you liked it!!! This is a very inspirational buildup. Don't worry about the kit's short commings. The tooling issues are not your fault. You've done an outstanding and remarkable job on this car. In fact, after seeing this model, I'm going to get myself a copy of this kit and have a go at it. Yes, there are some substantial body accuracy issues but let's keep the blame pointed at the guys who work in the tooling department....LOL, and not the builders who are working with what comes in the box. Sure, the body issues could be fixed and corrected, but who the hell wants to spend that much time fixing something that they shouldn't have to. Listen, the model looks superb. This is the best version I've seen of this kit. Edited April 19, 2010 by J. Sauber

You are right Mr. Sauber, there is so much to look at on this build, from the immaculate paint job, to the interior and every little correct detail he added to it. Cruz, I have always admired your work, you always take time to make a model look correct, something that's never easy. There are a lot of talented builders in here, you are one of the best in my book, thanks for sharing this with us.
bsoder Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 In honor of baseball season..I'll call your Old's a walk off grand slam Marcos!!
Wheels Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Marcos my man! Awesome build!! It must be see in person to see all of the great details!! I respect everyone opinions, but if I were to get bogged down in the details of the quality of a kit I would end up never building anything! Where's the fun in that! I was looking through my photos from the meeting the other day and I found this picture of your model. I like to call it; "The Man Behind the Model" Hosted on Fotki
sjordan2 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I don't care what anyone says about the molding of this kit. There is no such thing as a perfect model kit. If it's an imperfect kit, it's still a perfect build. Your talents are enviable.
MikeeD Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 OK...I get it...you photoshopped your 1:1 car and passed it off as a model... Excellent build with sweet detail. I love the ignition keys, nice touch!
