larrygre Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 With Fujimi and Revell Germany going neck and neck releasing 1/24 scale kits of the latest new Ferraris, it's good to see some of the classics from Maranello making their way into all-new tooling from Fujimi. Here's what's coming, expected by end January or early February 2007: 1/24 Ferrari 365GT4/BB Berlinetta Boxer 1/24 Ferrari 512BB Berlinetta Boxer 1/24 Ferrari 512BBi Berlinetta Boxer 1/24 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano There have been quite a few kits, mainly from Japan, of the Berlinetta Boxer series, but none of them have been particularly good (just about all of them were conceived when motorizing models was in full vogue in Japan). These Boxer kits are ALL-NEW TOOLINGS and they are not curbsides either, having very good engine compartment detailing. The Fiorano will also, of course, be done by Revell Germany. Also, Fujimi will be reissuing their 512TR Testarossa in February 2007. Maybe someday, either they or Revell Germany will do the last piece of the Testarossa puzzle - the never-kitted 512M.
Zoom Zoom Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 My Fujimi 512 BB and Porsche Caymans arrived yesterday from Hobbylink Japan; I'll pick them up @ a friend's later today 8) The 512 BB was out right after Christmas in Japan. The 599 GTB is due later this month.
ismaelg Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Have the 328s been released or did I miss it?
larrygre Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 Izzy, if you're talking about the Hasegawa 328s, they have been out for about two months or so. Nice kits both, and good to have back.
larrygre Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 Bob, hopefully my 512BB and Cayman should be here this week too. I've already seen photos of the 512's parts and inastruction sheet, and it looks like finally, the type has been done proud in 1/24.
Zoom Zoom Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 The definition of a good day. Finished a project, did errands on this warm January day w/the top down, and got my Cayman and 512BB 8) They're pretty nice. Fujimi's definitely upping their game; the only weird things about the Cayman are a red body but the rear spoiler, side gills, and mirrors are black  The rest looks great. I'm planning to customize it a bit. The 512BB is amazingly good. Great engraving, nice parts breakdown and detail w/o going too far overboard; 126 pieces. The only weird thing are the tires in my kit seemed tiny; they're really nice vintage Pirellis but I had to stretch the living **** out of them to go over the wheels. They look fine, but I hope they don't end up splitting. Weird...makes me wonder if I got 365 tires that may be smaller?? This is THE Ferrari Boxer kit. All previous efforts are rendered obsolete by a huge margin
7000in5th Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I always liked the look of the racing Boxer GT4 and I built this one as a hairy street machine. It had the usual flat plate interior. I forget the kit manufacturer. More HERE.
Modelmartin Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Dave, I think that may be the Tokyo Marui / TILT kit.
James Tester Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 What is the difference between a bb512 and a bb512i? I looked at some pix online and did not see any difference... Thanks, James
Exotics_Builder Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 What is the difference between a bb512 and a bb512i? I looked at some pix online and did not see any difference... Some body differences. Major difference is a Fuel injected engine versus weber carbureted. Gerry
larrygre Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Interesting that of the couple dozen 512BBs done by the various Japanese manufacturers back in the later 1970s (and MPC, who came by their BB512 molds from a Japanese source), there has never - until now - been a kit of the BB512i.
Exotics_Builder Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Some pics of the 512 BBi that may help
bigphoto Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Here are some pics of a couple 512BB's that I was able to snap at a couple of Ferrari events in Michigan in the 90's the standard BB has a dealer installed wing and was for sale at the time for $90,000 and the racing one, well!! it was just plain cool!!! http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1138377/512BB3.JPG Enjoy!!!!! note the copyright is to my photography biz.
