Yeah, I think the boys need a rest after blazing through the spring, getting their rides ready for the upcoming summer cruising season! Hope they have a case of their favorite beverage handy, as cleaning up the garage might take a little elbow grease after all of the work they put in!

(on a side note, I have been busy working on my 1:1 1991GT, trying to get the new round of mods into it for this summers season. She is still ugly and slow, but with the new suspension and brakes it will handle and stop better than a 'Vette)

Just for the heck of it, I ought to see if I can round up all of my FOX projects (scale that is, not 1:1) and get them all together for a family picture!

Up here in Ontario we have to have our (post 1988) cars and trucks emmision tested every couple of years in order to renew the licence stickers. This means that fiddling with engines and such can be somewhat limited (ie. I'd love to drop a carbureted 302 into the middle of a 1990's Probe for a mid engined custom), but the powers that control us probably wouldn't let me. (Probably just a dream of fancy anyway, but I think you get my point.) Do you have emmision testing rules in Ohio, that limit what you can do to customize late model power trains?

As far as your miniature family is concerned, I'd love to see what you have and what you're finding the time to work on......

Tony,

We did have E-check here about 7 years ago. However, believe it or not, the county found it too expensive to continue running the program and cancelled it on one of its' budget cut rounds. Not that I am too worried, as even if they do bring it back, every modification I do to the car gets the computer re-tuned (if that mod would effect the Air/fuel ratio the car runs at) so that it stays within spec. Now, that being said, all of my brake and suspension mods don't add up to 'Carbon Footprinting' like engine mods would. I will be running engine mods, but the mods I do, coupled with judicious timing and fuel re-mapping (coupled with my compression ratio bump-up), will actually help it to burn a little cleaner with more power. Will I be leaving some power on the table to the EnviorNazis? Yes, but not much.

I am working on about 40 different FOXes at the moment (some are merely mock-up idea phases). I am currently working on the Revell re-issue of the 85.5 SVO. I will try to get some pics up. You have seen some if you have cruised back through this thread, but MANY more hide in dark places!

FOR THOSE WORKING ON THE REVELL/MONOGRAM SVO: be advised that the nose cap will have to be narrowed .100" to get it to fit correctly AND look correct. You will want to take .050" out of the lower nose outboard of the fog lights on each side, and take .050" out under the headlights on the upper nose each side. Cut between the fog light section to the headlight section parallel to the body molding (on its' lower edge) on each side. With the .050" sections removed, clean up your cut lines and glue the nose cap back together. Sounds like a PITA, and it is. BUT, this is the only way to get the nose cap to sit correctly on the model, and to have the hood line up properly fender-gap wise. Cover it all in a thin coat of your favorite body-filler, sand smooth, seal and primer. This is just one of the areas that needs to be addressed on the SVO kit. I will post more later if anyone wants to know what to look out for when building this kit.

Tony - the boys have done some great work!

Brad-I had some issues getting the nose on my original red plastic SVO - I did test fit the headlights, and hood while I did...it's glued well with Tenax! Now in paint, too...will need to take some pictures and post them...

I would like to see the pics, Tony; I believe the SVO was one of the most under-rated cars for its time and didn't get the love it deserved. The extra $5000 that it cost over the GT might have had something to do with that though.

I see my red kits have the same problems (as a matter of fact, one of them is what led me to look hard at the new white kit) and will be dealt with in time. Right now, I am correcting the rear spoiler issue as well.

Hey Jason........ When I added the semi gloss black trim to my (Billy's) red car, I felt the same way you do. I almost put the whole thing back in the box 'cos I thought it looked like too much of a contrast (the black and the red) and just looked, well, wrong.

But I persevered and when it was finished, I realised that all the other elements of the build (interior, windows, wheels and tires, headlights, etc. etc.), toned down the harshness between the two colors. I think you'll find the same thing.

Personally I think yours is looking good and can't wait to see it finished. Don't give up, it'll be just fine at the end.

Jason, I think it is looking good. Better than mine in fact as you are actually getting something done and closer to finishing than I am! When this goes open-ended, you will have all the time you want to build as many FOXes as you want.

Haven't had time on the bench lately...I did find time to get another coat of semi-gloss black Krylon to lay down after a quick sanding of a few mild crazing areas. Even with Krylon primer, the semi-gloss black you really need to go light for the first few coats to sneak up on it, or it will craze like crazy!!

I think a medium grey for the interior, a bit darker than primer...will see what I have that is relatively flat paint. I found a few decent reference interior pictures of the SVO stock, but may take a little creative licence, like I did with the semi-gloss paint on the body and the dark grey wheels (they are currently flat black, but gunmetal will be brushed on soon). Cheers!

Don't keep me in suspense........ picture... pictures, please!

I found the dual snorkel air cleaner for Billy's car and just have to add it on. Then one final picture.... and it's done...... I think! (At least for now.)

Even though the deadline for the Fox build will be open ended after July 1st, I gave myself a challenge to get Backyard Billy's '85 GT clone finished in the original time allowed.

So here it is. Most of the car you've seen before but here a some latest pictures of the finished project.

I don't claim to be a super detailer, just an average builder, but I'm quite happy with the way this one turned out..... after having to fight with it a couple of times!

Hope you like it.

That came out very nice, Tony! Billy should be proud of his ride, and hit up the local scene for some tire-fryin', pop-swillin', music-jammin' good fun!

You did a great job with the 85-86 nose grill opening; that looks like it came that way and looks close enough to the real car that some will have a real hard go of it to tell it was a 1979-82 piece. I applaud you, sir.

Tony T, if you can find Duplicolor Hot Rod Gray primer up there, it's a good nice dark gray, and by using the old nose oil trick, should do nicely for some SVO gray leather seats.

Well guys.... deadline time on the original build is here......... and I have to admit I'm disappointed. Without going back through 28 pages I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) that only Tony T and myself actually completed a build.

Don't get me wrong! This is not a criticism. I know we're all up to our noses in projects and it's not always easy to keep track of deadlines for CBP's....... and that life gets in the way of the best intentions, etc. etc.. My disappointment is not with any of you guys out there......... I just wanted to see lots of Foxes on these pages, of all types and descriptions.

But there is a chance for redemption! Now the build is open ended..... get back to these projects and let's see a few more completed.

BTW..... please read these comments knowing that I had my tongue in my cheek while writing them. Lol....

I believe Jordan White, Gregbbear, and Jeff Johnston have also completed theirs as well.

OK, time to open-end this thread. This now becomes the home of FOX builds! Date changed and set!

Whoops..... sorry guys....... I should have checked before sticking my foot in my mouth. My apologies.

I completed one right BEFORE the thread started, so... :P:lol:

I've got a pile of Fox kits with ideas attached to them, but have been working on other stuff too. I'm sure with the open-endedness of the thread, I'll have something to submit.

I can't help it, I'm just lazy!!! :lol:B)B)

At least I did get the engine of mine half build, last summer!

Tony T, you, and me...

Mine, I guess, is more of a Fox body than a Fox chassis. I credit this challenge with my actually building this kit, which has been in my head for 25 years. I have a 79 pace car going, but lost interest. Community builds need to have a reasonable duration. If it goes on too long you have loss of interest. That's maybe what happened here. Thanks for starting this because its been fun to watch.

A nice build Jeff.

Was there an actual Gulf sponsored IMSA Mustang or is this a phantom? Certainly looks very nice and very realistic in the Gulf colors.

Sorry you lost interest in the pace car. I would have liked to see it finished.

BTW..... We have to thank whale392 (Brad) for starting this, not me. Being a big Mustang fan, I for one, am very glad he did.

Thanks Brad,

No need to thank me, I just wanted a place to build and share the FOX Fords with others. It is the other way around; I have to thank all of you for making this work and for building some very nice FOXes. I have let you all down by not having anything done. My only excuses are shear laziness and the fact that I have been working on my 1:1 Mustangs ever since warmer weather got here. I have so many FOX projects going that I sometimes forget where I am at on which one, and suddenly find myself staring at overwhelming mounds of plastic!

The community build was a timed event, and it has run its' course. Now, this has become a FOX corner of sorts; it is a place where all FOX lovers can congregate and show what they are working on with other like-minded individuals. Never feel like you can't post a FOX build here, no matter the build time/date, it is welcome.

Thank you again guys; because of YOU we have this thread, with lots of great builds and ideas in it. It is our baby, not just mine. I will feed it when I can and I still encourage you all to do the same!

Thanks for the tip, Eric. Not necessarily going with a stock colour...just need to get time at the bench!

Any chassis plate from any of the various Monogram 1/24th scale Mustang kits will work (as they are all the same). As to the interior; yeah, that is Cobra specific. I don't have a spare Cobra interior, but I have 4 spare chassis plates.
