Harry P. Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I want to replace the mirrors on my Mustang with Agent 47 mirrors. Last time I looked, I found a place that'll paint them for you (at an additional charge, of course)... but I can't remember the name of the place. I know that silverhorseracing.com sells them black or painted, but the place that I found had a much lower price for the painted ones. Anyone have any idea what that other place that I found (but now can't remember) is called? I did the google search thing and came up empty.

mikemodeler Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Harry, I think the place you are looking for is Earl Schieb ! "I'll paint any car for $49.95!" .......of course that was around 1970, IIRC ! Seriously, you might be able to find a body shop close to home that will paint them for you pretty cheap. Something like a mirror is easy and there is usually very little work needed to prep and paint them.
SSNJim Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Did you look through your browser history? Try Show All History. I think Firefox keeps a very long history. You could look and see if anything rings a bell.

Eric Stone Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Harry, I assume you have an S197 Mustang, since that's all I'm finding when I search Agent 47 mirrors. American Muscle and CJ Pony Parts have them, same price, both free shipping, both come in black. A quick search on 'the Google' shows that pretty much all places offer them unpainted. I have ordered the painted caps that attach to the stock mirrors (bought some for a buddy's Shelby, not mine) from American Muscle. They're $85, and look really nice IMO. Hope this helps....
Junkman Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Why don't you put your mirrors in the paint booth and unpack your airbrush?
Harry P. Posted April 29, 2010 Author Posted April 29, 2010 I ordered them in black, and found a place that sells the paint in 12 oz. aerosol cans for 20 bucks. So I'll paint them myself and save about $180!

So I'll paint them myself and save about $180! That was going to be my suggestion! I did that on a regular basis with my '97 F-150, front air dam, tail light covers, other accessories and trim pieces. It is amazing how much money you can save by doing that work yourself. What year Mustang do you have the pleasure of owning?

Wagoneer81 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks, Harry! I just drooled on myself again...That's twice today! Ok, where'd I put that other clean shirt... Seriously, very nice ride! The new Mustang is the one thing that Ford has gotten right in recent years. My sister owns a Dark-red droptop that, even for a V-6 is a great little car to tool around in. I'd love to get my grubby paws on a V-8, even if just for a little while... Just long enough for the Sheriff to ask me; "You have any idea how fast you were going?"

Ben Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Put your bib on... here's another view... Hey Harry, i'm assuming the new mirrors are ABS plastic? If so, you may want to shoot them with some adhesion promoter before spraying the paint on to make bond better to the plastic.

They call them "UV stable resin"... not sure if that's ABS or not. http://www.agentfortyseven.com/S197/mirrors.html
Ben Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 They call them "UV stable resin"... not sure if that's ABS or not. http://www.agentfortyseven.com/S197/mirrors.html I would still recommend using the adhesion promotor and a good lacquer for durability.
mikemodeler Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 A trip to an Auto Paint speciality store should yield the correct prep procedures to make sure that paint sticks properly. Nothing worse that than watching paint start peeling at 100 MPH

Nothing worse that than watching paint start peeling at 100 MPH :D :D I figure a little scuffing with some fine sandpaper before painting will do the trick.
Harry P. Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Mirrors came today. Woo Hoo!!! Now I have a weekend job to do... cold air intake kit next...
Rick R Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Depending on where you live, you may have a auto paint supplier who can match paint colors... here in SoCal we have Stan Betz, a legend in paint circles... but the idea is to have a supplier recommend the right shooter, someone with the correct hvlp gun and access to the proper additives like Flex agent. Don't forget the clear! Most I know would shoot the mirror cases for $20, some for a case of beerr and a fast roll around the block in your 'Stang!
crazyjim Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Good looking Mustang. Doesn't Illinois require a front license plate anymore? I'm trying to find a billet grill like that for my 2010 Frontier.
Harry P. Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Good looking Mustang. Doesn't Illinois require a front license plate anymore? I'm trying to find a billet grill like that for my 2010 Frontier. Yeah, Illinois requires a front plate, but they always seem to give a pass to Corvettes and Mustangs!
crazyjim Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Mustang looks real good Harry - even without the front plate. If you need those mirrors painted you want to head out to Maple park. My friend Dennis Reiter (we call him LT) owns Ethics Auto Body. The shop is on Rt 64 across the road from the Sycamore Speedway. It would be a ride for you but worth the trip.

I decided to leave them black for now. Might paint them sometime down the road.
Harry P. Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Installed them today. Nice!!!! They look 1,000% better than the stock units. Now on to the sequential taillight/stoplight/turn signals (because I think that's so cool!) and the cold air intake. Fun stuff!
