Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I like Harry's proposal, with the following exceptions ... 1. Add a separate hot rod/street rod category under "Model Cars." 2. Add a "catch-all" or "miscellaneous" category for stuff that doesn't fit naturally into the other categories, i.e. motorcycles, show rods, etc. Stock/Street/Show/Custom... that covers show rods, hot rods, street rods and even lightning rods... I like the catch-all category. Cars (with sub-categories), Trucks (with sub-categories), then "ALL THE REST" or "OTHER MODELS" or something.
Nick Winter Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Here's how I break it down, if you reversed it so that it was based on cars prodominantley rather than trucks it might just work.
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 ok, my final offer... Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Looks good to me Harry I'll put you down in the "yes" column then...
Abell82 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I fear that, if you divide the categories too much, you'll have areas that never get posted in. And why have a category no one posts in?
highway Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I like it Harry, even though the separate "Community Builds" section wasn't in the list.
crazyjim Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Would "view new" still work the same way? I'd like to see Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials and Swap/Trade/Free/Wanted as seperate categories. Thank you to Gregg, Harry, and Pat for providing the best model car forum in existence. For what it's worth, I plan on being around here no matter what changes you make. Three (3) cheers for Gregg, Harry, and Pat.
sjordan2 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 i skipped the drama and went right to the end i've said many times that in my opinion it would be a good thing to combine the drag racing models and NASCAR section into one and make it a "racecars" section that would be open to anything that races with wheels, including trucks and motorcycles. i also think it may be a good thing to delete both catagories or sections entirely and just keep the "workbench" and "under glass" sections to showcase ALL models. i also pretty well like the forums and the separate sections for the most part just as they are no need to over complicate things and no need to go as pre-historic as the Spotlight board. Dave Agree.
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I fear that, if you divide the categories too much, you'll have areas that never get posted in. And why have a category no one posts in? I agree. Too many categories just muddles things up. We need just enough categories to logically accommodate anything and everything, but no more than that. No need to split hairs (funny cars, rails, pro mods, pro street, super comp... that level of breakdown isn't necessary).
Peter Lombardo Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Whoa.....this is way too much for me. I am a simple man with simple needs. I like "almost done" and "done" after that I am lost. But what ever you do, I will be fine with it.
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 For what it's worth, I plan on being around here no matter what changes you make. So you're on board with a new "Recipes" category, then? Mmmmmmmm.... recipes........
crazyjim Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Recipes??? Sorry, I don't know what you mean. For tonights recipe I plan on making chicken fajitas. Maybe some Spanish rice to go along with the chicken in soft shells and out of the bag Tostitoes. Tomorrow night I might make meatloaf but it's supposed to be 92 degrees and I hate to use the oven when it's that hot outside, so maybe I'll do BLT's even though tomatoes are expensive.
Junkman Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Just one thing: It would be nice to have a showcase and WIP section in the big scale section too. Or whould the finished big scales also go into the 'regular' showcase?
Terror Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Way off track here,Model Trucks Magazine.I'll split it with ya,Gregg.LOL
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 and thats why I grow my own Harry, when should we be seeing these new recipes take affect? I'll tell you what... sometimes I think I could use a Drink Recipes section here...
MikeMc Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I'll tell you what... sometimes I think I could use a Drink Recipes section here... would that be shaken or stirred???
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Just one thing: It would be nice to have a showcase and WIP section in the big scale section too. Or whould the finished big scales also go into the 'regular' showcase? Relatively few members here build large scale (although I do, almost exclusively)... so since we have a relatively small large scale group (no pun intended!) here, I think we can get away with just having one overall "Large Scale" category that would cover WIPS, showcase finished models, or whatever. And besides, you could always post a finished large scale car or truck in the appropriate Car or Truck "Showcase" too... those areas wouldn't be limited to any particular scale. Like I said, there will inevitably be areas of overlap... but I think I came up with a fairly logical breakdown overall.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 For what it's worth Harry, it looks to me like you have a handle on it. Well thought out my friend. After reading through your revised set-up, I guess us Biggie guys don't have enough of a following yet to warrant a little more elbow room......oh well, we'll just keep hammering away and appreciating what we have.

There's always room for fine tuning... But yeah... for now us "big boys" are a pretty small, select group. And I actually kind of like it that way...
Railfreak78 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I do agree that the Hot Rods might need a spot outside of the regular car scene. Now that trucks is looking great (and thanks to you guys for that!) I only have one area I'd like to cover and that is Race like others mentioned. I think we need one topic thread added if possible. I'd make a Race section with 3 sub themes including Drag, Circle Track ( including Nascar,Dirt trackers, etc.) and add Road and Track that can hold classes from F-1, SCCA, Rolex-GrandAm Series, etc. Perfect example is the beautiful green Challenger in Nascar section would be great in Road in Track and I have a Dan Gurney Corvette I'm going to do. The Group 5 Build off cars could go there. Just my 2 cents. Thanks guys for reading. I do want to say over all this IS the BEST model car site and everyone should be happy it is not like some I have come across.
Wagoneer81 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Harry, your proposed layout looks good, I'd run with it!
GrandpaMcGurk Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 There's always room for fine tuning... But yeah... for now us "big boys" are a pretty small, select group. And I actually kind of like it that way... Heard that.
