62rebel Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 packing stuff up. spent a couple of weeks bingeing on finishing up half-builts so i could box them up... got them all in the linen closet while i find a more appropriate sized big box to handle regular AMT size kit boxes. the first time i packed my collection to move, half of them ended up junkers due to ham handed movers... i always do my own moves now.
RodneyBad Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Movin is no fun at all, had to rebuild a few cars myself. I find that if you get around new construction job sites, They have Great boxes used for the Over the stove Microwaves that make great Model box boxes. they hold around 30 models in each box. Of Course I deliver to new construction so I guess it is easier for me to find them. Also there are cheap plastic shoe boxes that run around 99cents that could hold projects safely. Good luck.
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Been there, done that. Try doing this as a military member moving overseas and then back... Twice! I currently have more damaged models in boxes than on the shelf complete. Life goes on.
whale392 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 All I have to say is 'DItY move'..........no more broken stuff when someone else handles it because now I handle it. Remember, to movers the word 'Fragile' is French for indestructible and they will treat it that way.
sfhess Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 (edited) Copier paper boxes have served me well. They hold 6-7 standard AMT kit boxes and one small Jo-Han box each. Fewer if you pack the larger Revell kit boxes. And they have a separate lid. Edited May 12, 2010 by sfhess
elan Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I moved my models and tools 1,200 miles. I put everything else in the truck, but my models stayed with me in the car. It worked really well with almost no damage. The only downside was that the car was really full of kits, no room for anything else.
tuffone20 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 This is something I'm going to be doing very soon as we just brought a house and close on the 9th of June and it's something I'm not looking forword to doing!! Thanks, Dan But I said we are closing on that day not moving that day, so I'll let you know for sure what day your service will be needed. But I just had a thought that you could GIVE me that one kit as a house warming gift? LOL
Scott Colmer Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I've been packing too.Yuck! Just sold the house and we will be moving to the next town over. We will be in an apartment during the transition. (Yuck again.) I got all my big boxes form the local hobby store and florist shop. The florist have these very sturdy long boxes that fit about 10 kits each. They used to be wider and could fit twice that. Scott I've been packing too.Yuck! Just sold the house and we will be moving to the next town over. We will be in an apartment during the transition.
