I was thinking about a few kits we'll likely (notice how I covered my GM there?) never see re-issued, and wondered which other kits people think will never again be re-issued, and why they feel that way.

I was specifically thinking about how cool the Revell Goodyear blimp kit was when I was eight, and how one day I would have one and put my own messages on the display. Alas, if we can't get tires with "GOODYEAR" on them, a kit of a blimp with "GOODYEAR" plastered on both sides has no chance. ;)

In all honesty, I would've also listed the Monogram's "Rommel's Rod" a few years ago, but R-M sure proved me wrong.

Now, I'm not thinking about kits which were updated (say, if the MPC '68 Coronet R/T tooling was modified into a '69 Coronet) or modified (like Monogram's Tom Daniel-designed "Dog Catcher" which was modified into the "Sand Shark"), but rather kits which for some good reason (in your opinion) will simply never be re-issued.

One thing I've learned in this hobby, Never say Never! The moment you say "They'll never reissue that" and spend big $$ to get an original kit, it WILL BE REISSUED!! A case in point from my own experience, I was hunting a Monogram Buick GSX for a musclecar build I was doing. now this kit had been out of production for a few years when I found one at a swap meet in Bloomington. Paid $30 for it. I figured that it would not be reissued as it didn't sell well (or at least locally) and was a somewhat odd subject compared to the sure thing Chevelles and GTOs. Well, sure enough, not but a month later, it got reissued. Not only was it reissued, but it was now a 2-N-1 with both the stock version and the street machine. Ever since then, unless the original tooling was for sure destroyed/lost/stolen, I never say "it won't get reissued".

Bill,

You've got that right, as I too have paid high dollar for a couple of hard to find kits several years ago, only to see them both re-issued. I wish I only paid $30 for each kit, but it was more in the 80- 100 dollar range. NEVER say never!

Yep, I think the orignal tooling was destroyed/heavily modified/lost so AMT tooled up a new one a few years ago:

Anything that has alcohol or tobacco advertising on it. At least not in its original guise.

Agreed. Even Monogram's Beer Wagon was changed to the RC Cola wagon, which is still more reason to be amazed the Rommel's Rod was re-done.

There are some that have been modified into other kits and therefore unlikely to be re-issued. Case in point, the old MPC Dodge pickup kits from the '70's, they were transformed into the Monster trucks and supposedly can't be returned to their former glory. There was some thought that The Model King was going to fix the molds but the cost was going to be pretty high. Not sure with Round 2 in charge if they will bring them back but I would definitely buy 6, as would many others here.

It sure would be nice to have some of the old MPC kits from the '70's & '80's but most of them have been updated over the years so they probably are long gone.

I agree, unless the molds have been lost or severely damaged, I can't say "Never" !

I don't see Rommel as being an issue. Pretty much all the big model companies make kits of WWII German subjects. Whether it's a caricature of a General or markings for an ace, neither glorify the Third Reich. The hot rod half-track kinda makes fun of it.

What makes you say that Clay?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them re-issued, I just don't think that there is a high demand for them. I would love to see them released with more engine options, and hot-rod versions.

I asked because part of the original question was 'what makes you feel that way?'

I think there is not much demand right now because they have been reissued so many times already. If the molds are still in good shape I bet we see them again someday though. :D

I know the Avanti was re-issued in 2000 as part of AMT's "Milleneum" series, and the '53 Starliner has been re-issued many times, so I wouldn't worry about that one. Even Revell's "Miss Deal" Gasser '53 Stude was re-issued as part of the SSP program.

I doubt the likes of the Cox Chaparral 2, IMC/Union Chaparral 2E or Lola T70 will be repopped along with most of the Roadracers and CanAm Cars of that era. Although they stir emotions in those that remember them the numbers are dwindling.

I know of several truck kits that probably will never be reissued. The Tyrone Malone Super Boss and Bandag Bandit, the Kenworth W925, the Kenworth/Challenge mixer kit, the AMT Kenworth Alaskan Hauler, the last three share the same basic tractor parts.

I'm thinking the AFC and NFC Chevy vans from Monogram are likely never to be re-issued, not only due to licensing issues, but also the fact that many of the team logos have changed since '76 (and the fact that the Seahawks have changed conferences...again  )

Revell 1957 Ford Country Squire wagon. (molds were irrevocably modified into a custom Rancharo)

MPC '81 Chev Cavalier. (Cause nobody would buy it now)

AMT 1960 Ford F100 pickup (molds modified year after year.)

Palmer 1955 Thunderbird (It was bad then... why bother !?!?)

I just think they need to be reissued with options of different engines and accessories like they did the F-100.

If you mean the AMT 53 F-100, other than different custom wheel/tire options/updates over the years, it has never been changed. Same custom options, same optional DeSoto Hemi, with the same induction options, same accessory parts.

Just saying I would like to see more options like that with the starliner as well as the avanti. I would also like to see maybe a stude truck or two kitted.
