cruz Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Okay fellas! I decided on my next build, the '62 Arnie Beswick Catalina, looks like a great kit so I'm going for it! Hosted on Fotki I have purchased Norm's (Replicas and Miniatures Company of Maryland) correct resin hood along with Scale Finishes Bristol Blue paint and the Model Car Garage '62 Catalina Detail Set so I am content and ready. cruz Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) After scuffing up the body and rescribing my panel lines, I decided to add a little piece of molding strip to the rear of the car, the upper one was okay but the bottom one didn't show up too well which means that I would have some issues after painting it and ultimately adding the BMF. I just purchased some plastruct strips and used a small piece to fix the problem. Hosted on Fotki Here is a photo of the real one for reference purposes...... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki It's still a bit too thick but I will be sanding it down to match the upper one. I am also starting to paint the parts and also clean up some mold line issues around some parts, it's always a little tediuos but at the end it's all worth it.... Hosted on Fotki Also added some color to the engine block, I will be adding distributor wires and other little details to it later. Painted the exhaust manifolds with Testor's Stainless Steel metalizer first and then just sprayed a light coat of Burnt Iron on top to give it a little bit of a used and burnt look. cruz Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Had some questions about the colors to use on the chassis but they were all answered by some of the guys here and specially by my good friend Bill Geary. I will be posting the pictures of the painted chassis soon together with some other little details as I go so please wish me luck....... Edited June 8, 2010 by marcos cruz
meaneyme Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Very nice choice Cruz, I am sure you will do great with this build. Keep us posted.

MrObsessive Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Alright Cruz! One of my favorite year Catalinas! Chassis looking good so far! Ain't separate frames nifty for painting??
edward smith Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 OOOOH YEAAAAAH! Just bought this kit last week and needed someone with experience to build one, I need to copy from everything you do. I love the way that chassis is going to turn out.
cotto Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Oh yeah! Didn't know you had started another project, I am going to enjoy this one. I purchased that kit about a month ago and also thought it was great. I am thinking about doing mine as a custom but I will see how yours comes out, I mean, I would love to use the Passionate Poncho decals and if I decide to go custom I won't be able to do so, it would be a terrible waste of decals. What primer did you use to paint your chassis? The black frame against that red oxide color looks terrific!
High octane Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Looks like you have a good start on your Poncho project. Didn't know that the hood was louvered, but I do now. Hopefully I'll start my Poncho project someday. I have been friends with "Arnie" for a number of years now as I am able to see him at events a few times a year and I'll be seeing him next month.

The primer is also from scalefinishes but you can use any other red oxide primer for this if you so desire. I must say though, the gentleman from scalefinishes sent me a free bottle of this primer, when he mixed up the Bristol Blue the first time, he told me it was not correct therefore I had to wait another day for him to send it. I told him that I was not in a rush to get the paint but he still offered me the free primer for his mistake. I didn't see it as a mistake but anyway, thanks Scalefinishes!!! If you have a chance to do business with him, please do so!! Edited June 11, 2010 by marcos cruz
1955chevy Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Marcos Great start as usual. I like the clean building style and attention to detail in all of your builds. I was also interested in the red oxide primer you used? I will be watching.
crazyjim Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I just love what you do to a kit Marcos. Don't you love the frame in that kit?
cruz Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 A bit of work on the engine, not a lot of parts but it does look pretty complete. Made it a little dirty to give it some character and contrast. I still have to paint the transmission but I like to leave it like this until I install all the parts on the engine, keeps my fingers away and makes for a cleaner build. impcon Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Looking REALLY great! You just gotta love the lines of those old Pontiac full sized cars! Clean, sharp, well propotioned and elegant! The upholstery was really attractive too.. definitely gonna be a sweetheart when you are done! Why not build one stock in the colours of the one in the picture that shows the back end of one? They'd make a neat pair on display - just like twin sisters - the one the strong willed, wild and free one and the other, the pretty, shy and modest one... more of a lady..
rustybill1960 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 :D Another diamond in the rough Marcos!!! As always an awesome looking build there Man!! Thank You for sharing! Later Russ
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Lookin' good man. You and I have the same taste with respect to build subject preference. See ya soon! J.B.!

High octane Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Really nice job on the engine and those fuel lines look great!
mah1200 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Your models are amazing. What color did you use to paint the engine? Can't wait to see more progress.
cruz Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Your models are amazing. What color did you use to paint the engine? Can't wait to see more progress. Thanks Mark! For the engine color, I had a bottle of Pacific Blue paint from Model Master and added a bit of white to match the color of the Pontiac engine, I didn't have any Pontiac engine blue paint in my stash.
