jjsipes Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) I have run out of the Tamiya thinner and won't be able to get to hobby shop for a few weeks, it is about an hour drive one way. I have a small window of time to paint before the humidity returns since I do my painting outside. Has anybody been successful in using anything else to thin Tamiya paints to be able to airbrush them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Edited June 9, 2010 by jjsipes
Zoom Zoom Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Test these first, but you should be able to use either rubbing alcohol or cheap lacquer thinner. The lacquer thinner works some of the time, but not always. Tamiya makes a bottle of lacquer thinner that is excellent for shooting their acrylics; it makes the paint flow and lay down more like lacquer and not so much like water-based paint. I clean my airbrush of Tamiya acrylics w/lacquer thinner all the time.
Pete J. Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 91% alcohol will do the trick. You can get it at most drug stores for a couple of bucks a quart. Acrylic thinners are mostly alcohol so this will work.
