Corvette.Jeff Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 hi yall,im only asking here because i know theres a bunch of fox body guys here. today i started paying on my first mustang, when i pay it off at the end of the month i want to start doing work on it. but have no idea where to start looking for parts.....anybody know a good forum?? btw,its an 82' four cylinder!! heres a pic. its all original and has a red cloth/vinyl interior and,it still has the original hubcaps. thanks,Jeff
Corvette.Jeff Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 and to keep this model related, was there ever a large scale 3rd gen mustang kit issued??
Greg Cullinan Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Nice four eye! Stangnet is a good forum.I used to know a few but haven't been on them lately plus a found a local forum. Phillystangs.
Eric Stone Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Without a doubt, the best two forums for you to get some help with that car are Fox Body Forum and Four Eyed Pride. Two good places to look for parts are CJ Pony Parts and Late Model Restoration. That thing looks pretty straight for its age and for the price! I like it. As far as a model goes, the only thing I know of has been this- which is in 1/32 scale. There have been a couple of coupe resin bodies, but they've been based on the '87-93 body style. Pretty much everything else I'm aware of is a hatchback or convertible. THIS SITE has a pretty good list (but not an exhaustive list) of what Fox kits are out there. I've found a couple of odd things here and there on eBay that aren't included on that list... Good luck with it, and its small scale twin.
highway Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 As far as a model goes, the only thing I know of has been this- which is in 1/32 scale. Didn't Monogram or Revell also do the Indy Pace car as a 1/24(25) scale kit? I have a friend that has one of the pace cars, which I think came with a motorcycle. Or was that kit a hatchback?
highway Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 MPC and Monogram did Indy Pace Cars (hatch). MPC 1/25, Monogram 1/24 Those kits were retooled into later versions of the car. Revell released a Mustang Cobra Turbo (1980/1-ish semi-stock) with 2 Wet Bikes (early Jet Skis) on a trailer. The kit was issued numerous times, and is a cartoonish hybrid of Capri and Mustang, as well as "not quite" custom elements, tooled so Revell could issue it as either car. It is a hatch also. Thanks for charging up the old brain cells for me, Mark! Even though I know my friend has the Indy Pace car, believe me, I've tried everything short of stealing it to get it from him , the Revell Cobra turbo was the one I was thinking about! If I remember now, it was red on the box, wasn't it? I just really couldn't remember if they were hatches or not. Thanks again for clearing my head!
Chuck Most Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Mark- The Capri/Hybrid one you are refering to is the one with the turbo 4 cylinder, which was reissued a few years ago as a "Motorworks" Cobra release, right?
Chuck Most Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 That's just one of it's many, many reissues. Correct. It's also the basis of the McLaren Mustang (basically just a different nose/hood) and a bunch of others. Thanks Mark! Quite familiar with that particular kit.
Rick Schmidt Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Welcome to the 4 eye club hehe. Another easy cheap way to find parts for these is hunt out race car drivers. These cars are used a lot for dirt track racing and a lot of guys just want the body leaving the rest for scrap. Got quite a few parts for mine that way including the pace car nose my 82 has on it
Corvette.Jeff Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 if any of yall have a fox body feel free to put a picture of it up, im lookin for inspiration all over,i am keeping it black though. i checked out FEP,and couldnt join because i have a yahoo email account. thanks,Jeff

Black is beautiful! Here's mine. I PM'ed you about the email account for FEP.
Rick Schmidt Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 My 82 in her better days Started off looking not much different than yours I know the first pic aint that great but can't go back and reshoot a pic when the car is in shambles lol
Abell82 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 USAirfix did 1980/1 Cobra hatch in a 1/24 snap kit that was a Monogram rip-off...down to having Monogram kits as the box-art models on the first run. I don't think that is quite true. The USAirfix model shares nothing with the Monogram model. The only thing they share is scale. Maybe I've just never seen a "first run", but I have never seen one with a Monogram car on the cover?
whale392 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Man, I go away for a day and this happens! Sorry I am late to the party; forgive me. foureyedpride.com is THE best site for early Foxes and as the title implies loving of the 4eye varieties. Foxbodyforum is another good site for the 79-93 cars. The next two are enter at your own risk (as the crowd is harsh and not too keen on 4eyes....they will try to talk you into Aero-swapping it) but are full of good info if you can sort through the bull: corral.net and stangnet. Also, should you wish to go turbo-4, give turboford.net a look. I am a member of all the above sites save stangnet, so if you need anything you can PM me here or over on the sites. Eric Stone can vouch for me on FoxBodyForum......as he and I are both members. As to performance mods to your car; being it is an 82 means it has some considerations to take into account that later FOXes don't. First, the gas tank straps are positioned narrower (closer together) on the 1979-82 cars, so swapping to a fuel-injected tank will require some work. Also, 1979-82 cars have a narrower cowl/cowl grill than the 83+ cars do, and the hood front lip is squarer than the 83-86 cars......only hoods from 1979-82 will work. Also, your steering column has the stalk-mounted horn versus the horn in the steering wheel. The steering wheel spline is milti-splined versus the 1983-up 'D'-spline, so just changing to a later wheel/contactor ring is out. You have dinky brakes; grab yourself the 87-93GT front struts, spindles, rotors, and calipers if you want to stay 4lug but with better brakes. While you are at it, grab the master cylinder, proportioning valve, and later wheels to clear the bigger brakes. Like I said, I have a TON of info for you if you would like it, just ask. I can show/tell you what it takes to go 5lug as well, and dang near any combination of brakes/axles/spindles (I have 3 4eyes and one Aero, and ALL have been 5lug swapped). Ok, models of your car. Unless you feel like hunting down the above mentioned Testors 1/20th Coupe or the 1/32nd snap coupes; your only choice is an earlier resin aero coupe and a nose/rear taillight swap from a 1979-82 Monogram 1/24th kit (I can help you with that too, as I have 4 of the AFXnScale resin FOX Coupes as they still have the 1979-84 body side molding) and have done the conversion. Let me know, and I will help as best I can. And welcome to the FOX world; word to the wise though, once you have one, they tend to multiply and you can never get enough. Rick Schmidt Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Whoa that red interior took me back 10 years to the first time I seen my 82. Looked just like that ...... Took care of that problem by putting in a black 93 LX interior from the doors back but still have the stock dash and console. Ya got 14 years and a few styles of car to choose from so if ya don't like something about it find one with one stuff ya do and swap it. Mine has 93 Doors also cause I was planning to add more Speakers than just the dinky in dashes hehe Also now have spots for two rears in the sides due to the later interior as my car was equiped with Dash Speakers and and Amp for a single rear speaker
Corvette.Jeff Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 that 4cyl isnt gonna stay in there for very long,im already saving up for a better engine, maybe a 5.0 h.o?? and a five speed... im already working on upgrading the sound system, i bought a sub box yesterday thats a perfect fit in the trunk, next is finding a way to put some 6"x9"s in there and some tweeters.

Corvette.Jeff Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Beautifull stangs dave,i really like the wheels on that nothback,i noticed they were four lug, what car do i need to rob to get a set??? Thanks,Jeff
whale392 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) If you want to go 5.0/5spd, be sure to grab the pedal assembly/quadrant from a stick car as the auto assembly doesn't work with the stick. If you can get the early SROD 4speed bell housing, you can use a Tremec 3550 in the car with that bell. Then again, ignore me..........just some silly ramblings of a FOX guy. Dave, do I spy an FHP SSP (with the 83-86 Lear-Siegler Sport seats installed)? That pic looks like how I am building one of my resin coupes (CobraR wheels and all) to include the lightbar and proper decaling. Shall we call it a 'What if Johnny law was allowed to modify his pursuit car'? Edited July 16, 2010 by whale392
Chuck Most Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I like them, but I think I'd just change the brakes to 5-bolt!
whale392 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Correct Mark. I myself would swap the car to the later 5lug stuff and use the correct CobraR wheel (if I were to use the CobraRs). I prefer a different style wheel myself, but opinions vary. ,
Eric Stone Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 That interior looks too clean to mess with! My line of thinking is, if you want a 4-eye car, then want to upgrade to an EFI engine, newer interior, and swap sheetmetal, then you should've bought an 87-93 in the first place, as it would be cheaper in the long run anyway. That's a great lookin lil coupe, Jeff, red interior and all. That thing should be lots of fun with a 5.0/5spd swap.
