Harold Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Those are some really great builds, Michelle. I can't wait to see the Daytona foiled and polished, and the Riviera is sweet .
Harry P. Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 gee, thanks for the "warm" welcome. Maybe you could try saying something nice? Either that or simply don't post at all.... we're all adults here aren't we? Don't see me nitpicking your builds... it's not really that huge of a deal if they aren't 100% complete. It's not like they're all in pieces and I'm like "here they are!" lol. Some people... In your original post you said that they were "finished models" that weren't quite finished yet. I didn't "nitpick" anything. I didn't say anything "not nice." All I did was ask you a simple question: Are they finished... or not? Your response: you went off on me for no reason at all (see above quote). Then you edited your initial post and reworded it to make me look like I was "picking" on you. Yeah, like you say... some people.
Harry P. Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Harry - stop being so curmudgeonly. Semantics will get us all in trouble anyway.... I don't appreciate being called out for something that I didn't do. And when it happens I make mention of it. Simple as that. Semantics have nothing to do with it.

They are my models, I am not building them for your approval. I do not appreciate how you criticize little details and you can't even say "hi, welcome to the forum". Just because you are a Mod does not mean you have the right to disrespect me for no reason. I mean, do you absolutely have to fuss over whether a picture of one of my models shows a shift boot in unpainted chrome instead of it's current state of correct flat black? It is just as easy to hit the back button if you don't like my work. I don't care if you like it or not, but I would appreciate you not causing drama in my thread, Mod or not. For the last time, if you have an issue with me, then PM me Harry. Maybe you did not read my prior post about these pictures not being up to date because I don't have a digital camera. Everyone else here has been very nice and welcoming, isn't it your job as a Mod to make sure people *want* to be here, to be a contributing member? I could go on, but I will end with this. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". PLEASE keep the drama out of my thread. It is NOT necessary! I'm here to have a good time. THANK YOU Edited July 27, 2010 by MB_ChargerChick
TurboKitty Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 i really like the purple Daytona R/T too my sister-in-law has an orange 1:1 Daytona can you post some more pics of the Riviera? i'm curious about the LS swap and how that worked out in that car. Dave I'd like to make a Daytona R/T in every color they came in since they were introduced since '05 eventually lol. Here are the only other older pics of the Riviera I have, it has since had some engine detailing done and the rear wheels were moved a little bit so they didn't look so awkward. I have also added black detail foil around the windows instead of chrome, to give it a slightly more modern look. I'm wanting to add working hood hinges as well, but have not gotten to that yet. I keep wanting to go back and add more detail, lol. also here is a Tamiya Nissan 350Z that I painted in a close match to "Interlagos Fire Metallic": That one didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but I really like the detail in the Tamiya kits, even if this one is only a static display model with no engine detail...
cruz Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 WOW! Great stuff, remind me that to compete against you!! Welcome to the forum, you will like it here, lots of great people and a great place to learn! Don't worry about Harry, you see that fierce dog in my avatar? He is chewing his behind right now so, don't worry. But seriuosly, Harry is a great guy, he just believes in what I believe, constructive critizism, best way to learn....

I'm not going to worry if someone doesn't like my work, there are much more important things in life and God knows there's enough to worry about as it is! This is my way of relieving stress, not adding to it
Scalper Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Nice looking builds.. I really like your daytona. looks mean and fast, Welcome.
TurboKitty Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) Testors Blazing black on the Riviera? Dave Yep, love the color. It is a dark, dark pewter/black metallic (not true black). Here are the other colors: I used "Purple Licious" on my '07 Charger Daytona R/T. It is an almost perfect match to "Plum Crazy". The only color I will warn about is "Root Beer". It doesn't come out quite like on the bottle, it is more of a regular burgundy metallic. Like this: Edited July 27, 2010 by MB_ChargerChick
spkgibson Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Wonderful Builds,My favorite one is the Purple Charger!
TurboKitty Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 First of all Michelle, welcome to the forum & we are glad you joined us! Very nice work on everything I see & I like it a lot, with the GTX probably my favorite. Now, Harry is a great guy first of all, & is very straightforward. He means no insult when he says something like that, & may actually have been confused by where you posted some photos, thus his comments, for even though I read & understood your initial comments, I too wondered why some of the builds were in this section. That doesn't mean you posted them in the wrong place, as you are new here & will learn what goes where, just as we all did. Enjoy yourself here & keep those models coming! It's been taken care of, lol. I'm planning on making a '71 Roadrunner to accompany the GTX, I just haven't figured out what color combo to do. It will probably be a rare or unique one though, as you could get some pretty odd color combos back in the day, lol. I've even seen a dark green '70 Charger with a green vinyl top, red R/T stripe, and a red interior. Whoever ordered that must have LOVED Christmas! Also thanks, I like it here a lot!
Agent G Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Did you perchance document the Riviera build? I'm curious to see how that engine/trans is integrated in that frame. I do like the builds girl, keep em coming. G
TurboKitty Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Did you perchance document the Riviera build? I'm curious to see how that engine/trans is integrated in that frame. I do like the builds girl, keep em coming. G I didn't, really. I used the engine from the Revell '98 Firebird Ram Air 2 in 1 kit (Motor City Muscle) though. Honestly this one wasn't one of my better builds, the engine is basically just sitting on the chassis. I somewhat modified the Firebird's air box and mounted it under the hood latch plate on the Riviera, and modified a radiator & fan assembly to go underneath. I didn't have all of the parts for the Riviera, I had to kitbash a lot of it. Luckily I found the interior at a yard sale in a big baggie of plastic parts. The wheels are from the Monte Carlo "Donk" kit I think. The front glass is hazed and is from my parts box. I don't know what it's from lol. I'd like to rebuild it with new bumpers, glass, chassis, and much more detail once I get another '67 kit. I'm not good at scratch building, so there is a lot that doesn't show underneath lol.
aksarben Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 The Riviera looks great despite all of the issues you mentioned. Love the black Daytona as well, any engine shots of that? Steve
TurboKitty Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 The Riviera looks great despite all of the issues you mentioned. Love the black Daytona as well, any engine shots of that? Steve thanks, I only have one from about 5-6 months ago. It's also before I added any detail to the engine, but it was painted and mocked in place: I know the paint isn't the best on it in the picture, but it does look better in person. I'm planning on taking it apart to wetsand it more, and to re-clear, buff & polish it so I can enter it in something.
Tony T Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Welcome to the forum! You've got some nice builds there!
Romell R Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I dont want to ad to the current drama so I'll keep my comment short, Welcome aboard Michelle and Im impressed with your builds please keep up the outstanding work and we'll be looking forward to more post from you. Romell

TurboKitty Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 thanks guys, and just for the record, I really do not mind constructive criticism. All I ask is that if you're going to give it, make it a PM. I am still learning the ropes around here and all I really wanted to do was show some of my work. I know I'm not as diehard into it as some people are, but those people need to realize that nobody starts off as an expert! LOL it takes years of practice to get to an outstanding level. Be a little more considerate of those who aren't at your level, you were a novice too at one time Even after doing this for 10+ years, I'm still not into it as much as I could/want to be!

You are so correct ! I still dont understand most of the "abreviation type" or "lingo". All I know is to build to suit yourself and the other will come. ( whatever the other is ) There are some very hardcores on here but with great intentions. I guess, once you become an expert at something...the challenge is over. I love challenges, so I am sure, I will never be an expert. I just enjoy the hobby. Its a break from my horticulture business of 40 years. Just build and enjoy. and again welcome to the jungle.
highway Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 also here is a Tamiya Nissan 350Z that I painted in a close match to "Interlagos Fire Metallic": I looked through and didn't see what the color was you used for this one, Michelle. What is it? I have a big rig I'm painting with color shifting paint and that would be a perfect frame color for it!
TurboKitty Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 I looked through and didn't see what the color was you used for this one, Michelle. What is it? I have a big rig I'm painting with color shifting paint and that would be a perfect frame color for it! I built that 350Z a couple years ago, and I was looking for something that was similar to Nissan's "Interlagos Fire Metallic" from the 2006 model year. This is the real deal: I found this at my local Meijer, it's called Dupli-Color Mirage. It's a 3 step system that can be used to paint pretty much anything. I used the "Gold/Magenta" one, you can buy it on Amazon.com here: Dupli-Color Mirage Gold/Magenta It comes in a few other varieties. It's a little older but is still available without much searching. I used the "Green/Purple" Mirage paint on my '71 Charger R/T Custom: I also have the "ICE" paint in my closet, waiting to be sprayed on something fitting, this is what it looks like over a silver or white base: Overall, be patient with it when applying the mid step coats over the black primer it comes with. You'll build up a nice effect in about 5-7 coats. I wet sanded between every few coats on the '71 Charger, and then cleared it. It came out pretty decent, but it's not perfect. It does provide a rich color change though, and it really pops when waxed!
highway Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Thanks, Michelle, and my truck I'm building was going to be painted in DupliColor Mirage, but no place in my area stocks it anymore. I ended up finding a similar paint at Lowes, which was what I painted the truck itself, I just want something different for the frame. Since it seems like you have a nice eye for color, check it out and give me an idea! Here's a link to it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28849 By the way, the idea I have in my mind is to both compliment and contrast the cab's color at the same time, and something more interesting than just plain old black.
