I had to take my wife to the airport yesterday and on the way home, I stopped for the first time at a Michael's store to look around. I have driven past that store countless times and usually I am too rushed to really stop and look around. We live an hour and a half from Kelowna ( where the store is located ) so we don't get there on a regular basis but I did stop and I went in to look around.

First off - their prices make the two other smaller hobby shops seem pretty affordable and economical to say the least. But having said that, they do have a decent assortment of model cars and some modelling supplies. I did not spend as long there looking about as I would have liked to, but they do have some other pretty interesting( but expensive ) stuff that can be used for building kits and I will definitely go back for an unrushed visit in the next couple of weeks.

OK - now the question - where do I find these coupons that you guys keep talking about ( I am assuming the local newspaper? ) or can I find them online? I think that i would sooner support the small hobby shops and I do my best to buy a kit from each one - or at least some supplies - when I go to Kelowna. But I'd also occasionally buy a kit from Michael's if they were on sale and I was in town at that time. Thanks in advance for the input and advice.

You'll have better luck getting coupons via your email once a week. Michaels corporate has really dropped circulation of their ad. In two years or less they will be completely reliant on email ads only. They have already run 3 ads via internet only.

Gaining coupons through your local paper, if you get an ad, purchasing something at a store and receiving a register coupon or through your email are the only ways to get them. They do occasionally have them on the website, but prefer you to be registered. Your privacy is of concern to them and they only email you once a week.

As was mentioned, they do accept AC Moore, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby coupons. They also do price matching if you have an ad from a competitor, but it has to be the exact same item.

Models very rarely go on sale. They do drop the price on them for clearance purposes and if you catch it just right you can use a coupon if you have a sleepy cashier thus making it even cheaper. There are a lot more items for modeling use throughout the store that are pretty inexpensive. Thinking outside the box really helps.

With the holiday seasons approaching they now have their Halloween Lemax buildings and accessories out. Great opportunity for skulls, lighting, fences, trees and the like.

Be sure to read your coupons exceptions too.

My store usually has the coupon flyer posted at the front of the store. I've asked the checkout person if they can get the discount if I dont have the coupons and usually the nicer persons have a pocket full of them and will give one to me.

Thanks guys.. this is a learning curve for me as i am not a coupon guy 'cause my wife does all of the shopping. I'll see what I can do and any other little hints and suggestions will be appreciated. I have a feeling that I amnot the only one learning here.;):)

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but here in southern California there are a few ways. The next time you are at Michael's buy something. They give you a 40% coupon along with your receipt. You can also sign up for their email while in the store. Occasionally they send coupons. Our Sunday paper has coupons every week. Finally as someone else just posted Michael's accepts competitors' coupons and yes Joann's are 505 off.
